I was just thinking about this, and the team that comes immediately to mind is the Detroit Lions. I really can't remember the last time they were "good".

I guess you could make the case that the Dolphins have been perennially bad since it's been a while since we've put a good team on the field. It just seems like the Lions have been bad for a very long time.

So, I'm wondering if going through this awful stretch as a Dolphin fan is worse than pulling for a team that sucks seemingly EVERY year?

you know what's sad is that a lot of dolphins fan are complaining about how wayne H. put the team through this mess but they dont realize team have worse owners then us. The lions will always be bad because of Ford/Millen.

Im glad we have parcells, Id take mueller over Millen anyday. No its not worse becuase dolphins have hope and has a pretty soon to be great oline/dline. All the lions have is CalvinJohnson/roy williams/ernie sims. Read the lions board they are sick of Millen's moronic moves.

I'm with you...Even though the last 4 years have sucked, this still feels "temporary" to me. Maybe I'm blind.

If I was a Lions fan, I think I would have stopped paying attention to the team after Barry Sanders retired.

Good thread. I have been saying for a long time that part of our sour outlook is because we were spoiled for so long. There are teams that have been bad for a long time (Lions) and some that sometimes tease for a season or two but then resume their sorry ways(Bengals). The Dolphins do indeed have that "temporarily bad" feel. There are many 0-2 teams right now and we are not the worst for sure. Better days are ahead, boys and girls, and when they get here things will be like the old days when we were among the top franchises.

irrevelant and does'nt make any sense, what the hell are you asking anyway

You cheer for a team because your a fan of the team. If you only cheer for them when we are winning and not when we are losing you are what I would call you a fair weather fan. To bad we have alot of weather fans on this site.

How ironic this post is for me. I grew up in Detroit and is I was getting old enough to understand football, I vividly recall folks close to me talking about how mismanaged the Lions were (late 60s). I used to go to games at the Big House. My favorite player was Jim Mandich and it was natural for me to become a Dolphins fan when he was drafted. My allegiance is to the Tigers, Red Wings and University of Meeeechigan (as Fielding H. Yost would say it) but my true love is the Dolphins. Always has and always be.

I have to disagree. I don't think we have many (any?) fair weather fans on this site. How many fair weather fans spend their time on a fan site after a team as gone 1-20 and has had 3-4 losing season? There may be a lot of asinine posts that appear on this board from time to time, but I gotta defend the FH here a bit. I really don't believe there is anyone on this site, apart from the non-phins fans who join us, who actually don't cheer for their team on Sunday.

As to the original question, I was wondering the same thing myself. We have been massively spoiled. The fact that we still have the highest winning % despite the last 4 years tells us all something about what we did have.

You and only you know why you root for a team.

Me, I have followed the Dolphins since they were an expansion team and I was a fourth grader. I admit, I'm a "homer". At the time, I think the nearest NFL team to where I am living (Florida), was in DC. There were no Buccaneers, no Jaguars and the Falcons and Saints were just as new as the Dolphins.

Personally, I feel bad for people who follow their local teams (like me) who suffer year in and year out with the success (or lack of) their team has. People who follow the Lions, or the Cardinals or even the Saints have really gone through a lot. Most of the time, though, the pendulum swings the other way. That looks to be the case now in Arizona and lately in New Orleans.

I can say, however, that I have seen my team on top, and I don't think it will be much longer before they're back there again.

Good luck to those who may have to wait longer than we as Dolphins fans have.
