Concerning the cap, and assuming the CBA doesn't get done, and there will be no cap in 07 would it be possible to sign guys in free agency This year to some weird deals like.......... Lets say Miami goes after Brees could they sign him to a deal giving him a very low salary in 06, but a very very high one in 07??? Like could they sign him to a 2 year deal worth 21 million dollars, with him making 1 million this year and 20 million next year??? I'm not saying this would be the smartest thing to do, or that Brees would even agree to a deal like this, but would this sort of thing be possible/an option if no CBA deal gets done???

The "30% Rule" governs veteran contracts that are entered into in a capped year and extend into the final year of the CBA. The rule states that these contracts cannot have an annual increase of more than 30% of the salary, excluding amounts treated as a signing bonus, provided for in the FINAL CAPPED YEAR. 2006 is the final capped year unless the NFL and the NFLPA agree to an extension of the CBA.
