I've seen a few mock drafts showing the dolphins picking him and I've also seen several people here wanting us to pick him. While I don't think anyone disagrees that he's the best CB in the draft, would he be a good fit here on our system? We tend to play a lot of off man, zone coverage and from all accounts Waynes is more of a press coverage man to man physical corner. I read somewhere that it may take him a while to develop into a zone coverage corner. Assuming this is true, would it be wise for us to draft him at 14 if it will take time for him to develop the skills necessary to excel in our system?

Sure. Kevin Johnson is a tremendous fit.

I wouldn't love the pick. Waynes is the best corner only because it's a weak draft for corners.

He sure looks press man to me...although 4.31 and his hips dont necessarily say it...just what he looks most comfortable in for what i see

Hes not the best CB in the draft IMO. I dont like that pick at all.

I think CB is one of our biggest needs. Grimes is an excellent # 2 CB but we need an impact # 1 CB to win games in the 4th quartter unlike last season.

I think Waynes has the ability to work into our scheme more. he has played press basically as a Spartan and is basically used to that. but he never was overly physical up front in the press anyways. he impressed me with his hips more, and is able to run with... keep him working, footwork, etc... get comfortable and learn, i think he can be a fine player in our scheme!!!!

Yes. Trae Waynes can play in any scheme in any coverage. He'll be BPA unless Leonard Williams or Amari Cooper fall to #12. He's the third best player in the draft.

The reason we play the type of coverage we do is because of our personnel. Other than Grimes Coyle hasn't had the talent to play man or press man. If Waynes is the BPA & our pick then our D could be in for some changes. With Suh in the middle & combining Waynes with Grimes that would a game changer in terms of scheme.

I like him. I'm biased because I'm at MSU, but he blanketed receivers every time I watched him play. If he's BPA, I'd be happy with the choice. I'd prefer a LB though tbh.

I think he is more of a second round guy. He is fast so if the Colts propose a rule change that after the 2 pt conversion you can run a foot race with a player that both teams choose for an extra point, then he may have some value there. I think he is weak on slant routes. He gives way too much cushion there. Also when a wr gets him in a back pedal and he plants his back foot to break on the route, he has no speed after he makes the break. Grimes has the same struggles at times on the slants but not the comeback routes. Waynes will get abused there in the NFL and we will forfeit first downs way too much.
