With Vontae Davis likely replacing Andre Goodman opposite Will Allen, how many of you expect a higher level of play than what Goodman provided last year. IMO, he started off the year a little rough, but by the end of the year, may have been playing as good or better than Will Allen. He led the team with 5 INT's.

Now, it is a no brainer that moving forward you have to like Vontae Davis' potential, and he is the easy decision for the future....

but what about just for the 2009 season?

Do you think that Vontae Davis will be better or worse than what Goodman was last year?

Yeah without a doubt IMO. Goodman's very overrated because he was able to pick off a couple of over thrown, or just badly thrown, balls by Bulger and Favre.

Vontae is a way better tackler should be pretty solid in man to man coverage.

a push, but in 2010, 2011, 2012 and so on, vontae davis will be a much better player

remember guys, he will be in his rookie season so don't expect him to be a beast from the get-go (although i think he won't take much time to become a good player and adjust to the nfl)

I would say this is extremely hard to tell but I would doubt that he will be better in his first season as a Dolphin. I beleive he will be better in the long run probably even after one year of NFL experience, but as a rookie im not expecting all that much from him although i do expect him to produce!

I think itll be a push this year as Vontae gets acclimated to the NFL... I "think" and "hope" he is more talented overall than Goodman and therefore going forward will be an upgrade...

I thought Goodman was playing at an awefully high level the second half of the season idk if I'd expect a Rookie CB to perform like that. So ultimately my answer is no. I do however think our secondary will be vastly improved as a whole from last year though. Wilson is a HUGE upgrade over Hill and I think Smith/Green are upgrades of whoever we had as our nickle and dime backs last season. just for a starting unit though I'd MUCH MUCH rather have a Davis/Wilson combo than a Goodman/Hill combo. Our DB's are also so much more physical now too, Davis is already going to be one of the most physical a fierce tacklers at CB in the NFL and Wilson is Waaaay more physical than Hill is/was.

Well not in the first game....but Todd Bowles IMO is the best secondary coach in the NFL...so he will become a shut down corner

well i think davis is a upgrade over goodman but i dont think he will get as many interceptions has him but well play better all around and it wont be long till he knocks some heads off

I cant vote, Vontae hasnt played a down yet. I hope he is an upgrade but at the same time, i hope hes not a bust.

I don't know that Davis will start the year at the level that Goodman closed '08, but the second half of '08 was the only decent football Goodman ever played (in the NFL). To me, that speaks highly of our DB coach. I expect Davis to catch up to Goodman's play within the first few weeks and to surpass it by the halfway point. By season's end, I expect Davis and Smith to be playing at a much higher level than Goodman. They're better athletes with better natural football instincts.

Yup^

I think its kind of odd everyone says Goodman started off rough but was playing well by the end of the season.

No, he started off terrible, and ended the season mediocre.

Goodman played for us for quite a while and the only props he got was at the end of last year. Most of the time he spent on our team he was mostly a liability. Even if he had a good latter half of last season, his luck was very situational and i am not completely sold, and never was, on Goody. Good guy, fun to listen in interviews but very average as a corner IMO. If Goody would have been that good, Jason Allen would be gone by now, and Detroit would have kept him.

I have high hopes for Vontae, one of those hopes being that he and his brother are cut from different fabric as people.

it's amazing how some fans can sell themselves just about any idea simply because the front office thinks that way. personally i think it's absurd to think he will play at the same level goodman did, but we'll see.

Maybe some of us still remember goodman getting torched in that texans game.

I know i still do. Not blaming him entirely, but he was there a lot.
