Isaiah Pead thinks he’s worthy of a roster spot, but it’s far from a certainty. (Getty Images)

There’s not much more running back Isaiah Pead could have done to convince the Dolphins that he’s worth keeping, and he survived Saturday’s wave of cuts that lowered their roster to 78. The team still has to drop three more by Tuesday, and it’s possible more could go as they target players let go by other teams.

As Miami’s leading rusher in the preseason, albeit mostly against reserves, Pead feels good about his argument to stay on the roster.
“Yeah, I’m confident in myself and what I’ve done, but that’s not up to me,” he said. “I can only control what I can control.

It's an interesting fight for the final RB roster spot. Pead has looked much better than expected - done nothing wrong (and he's got a bit of speed). Damien Williams has definitely improved (and he's good at protecting the QB) and even Daniel Thomas has looked decent when given limited opportunities. The other question is whether they put Kenyan Drake on IR? Really tough position but my inclination would be to keep 4 RBs - Foster, Ajayi, Pead and Williams and put Drake on short term IR. Drake won't like it but it gives them some time and wiggle room in case of injury. A bit like how they handled Ajayi last season.

Damien has looked really good, decisions and cuts look very sharp. He's one of the more surprising players this Pre season, I thought for sure he was done. Looks like he has finally taken the sport seriously. I've said it many times, but physically he's built the way you want a running back built.

But now it looks like his insticts are catching up woth his physical ability.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility they cut Ajayi. I don't think Williams or Pead have anything to worry about because they both will make a 53 man roster whether it be Miami or somewhere else.

I would say he's earned a spot - I assume Gase will carry four running backs, with those four being Ajayi, Foster, Drake and Pead.
