With Mike Nolan gone-(out of the way)......It is all coming up Zimmer.....
Just hope in 3 years we are NOT right back where we are now......????????

Who knows? I wanted an offensive minded guy, but the coordinators he could potentially bring in in Haley and Jackson ease my worries quite a bit.

Well we could say that about all the candidates left as they do not have HC on their resume. Putting an assistant in at HC is always a guessing game- any name you throw out there and we may be back here again in a few years or we may be in the playoffs

Care to explain why?

Google Mike Zimmer and find out for yourself.

His players absolutely love playing for him. He isn't a soft spoken ***** like Sparano. He's loud and in your face, if you **** up he's going to let you hear it. He's exactly what you want in a head coach. Not to mention he's been working towards this for 15+ years I believe. With the remaining list of potential HCs, Mike Zimmer is the cream of the crop.

K - thanks

Somebody tell the fan base this. I can't stand all the whining and overreaction I've seen.

Whoever it is we really have to act soon. Colts just fired Caldwell today so they will be interviewing as well. Coordinators are being plucked up and head coaches are going to be gone soon too. Ross needs to make up his mind so we don't miss out on the best choices.

Agreed. The sky isn't falling, there is definitely a reason for optimism. Last year was when the **** hit the fan. An owner who has no faith in a coach, and a coach who had no faith in his QB, and had no relationship with his GM. Expectations were low for the team. Change is necessary and this could be the guy. He may not have HC experience but he sure as hell has a hell of a lot of respect around the league, and great connections.

HOUTZ: wanny and sparanos players loved them to. BIG DEAL!! and most of the time, i think this is more a detriment. when guys were playing for shula and walsh and lombardi and jimmy jouhnson and coughlin and levy, they HATED it! they were tyranical task maters. they respected them, because those coaches got them results. but NONE of them ever mentioned their names without a slew of exlpetetives around it. charles haley still hates jj. jake scott still hates don shula. jim taylor and bart star STILL hate lombardi.

so, thats it? the poster asked you whats so phenomenal about zimmer and thats ALL you could come up with? his players love him? this is what i have been asking all week, and not gotten anything "phenomenal" back. he is a good coach, but i dont see "oh god! we got zimmer! its pie in the sky now!!!"

BUT, it is pointing to zimmer now. nolan was UNDER CONTRACT, and there was NO out clause for him as someone reported. he had to have the finz permission to walk. and he got it today. why?

only two things i say would cause nolan to leave here, a coach coming in who favors a 4-3 [zim] or the finz brass handing the h/c gig to that WORTHLESS todd bowles. no way nolan works UNDER his hand me down lacky. no way!

it looks like zimmerman [he is an old cowboy pal, and even though posters can create a huge rant post about not liking it, its true once again] or bowles. bowles would be dirt cheap, do everything ireland askes of him and smile doing it, wont gruff about ireland picking his cordinators. all because....... BOWLES KNOWS HE WILL NEVER get a h/c shot anywhere else.

so you can bet those reasons look mighty appealing to one jeff ireland right now. doesnt need some dude with a bunch of pesky nfl knowledge and know how coming in and rocking his boat. [see mike westhoff and dave wansdtedt]

only in miami folks.

Someone please clarify:

Reports are that Nolan Signed a 2 year contract to be the D-Coordinator in 2009 meaning that his contract was up in 2011 (This year). Why are people under the assumption that he is/was still under contract beyond this year?

the team may have had an option for another year.

From Wikipedia:

Playing careerIn high school, Zimmer was a successful multi-sport athlete who earned all-conference honors in football (1972–73), baseball, and wrestling at Lockport Township High School. He enrolled at Illinois State University, majoring in physical education. He played quarterback in 1974, but he redshirted the following year and moved to linebacker in 1976 after breaking his thumb. A neck injury prematurely ended his playing career that same year.
[h=2][edit] Coaching career[/h][h=3][edit] College[/h]Zimmer's first coaching job was as a part-time defensive assistant at the University of Missouri from 1979–1980. He then coached at Weber State College from 1981-1988, serving as the inside linebackers coach from 1981–84, the defensive backs coach from 1985–88, and the defensive coordinator from 1983–88. From 1989-1993, Zimmer served as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Washington State Cougars. In 1993, the Cougars defense ranked eighth in the nation in total defense and second in rushing defense.
[h=3][edit] National Football League[/h]He joined the Dallas Cowboys in 1994 as an assistant coach of the nickel defense under Barry Switzer. He was promoted to defensive backs coach in 1995 and served in that capacity before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2000. The 2003 Dallas Cowboys defense gave up the fewest yards in the NFL while running an aggressive, speedy 4-3 defense. Despite the Cowboys' problems over the years, Zimmer survived several coaching changes (Switzer, Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Bill Parcells) and was rumored to have been a candidate for the head coaching job at the University of Nebraska (circa 2003). In 2005, he implemented the 3-4 defense favored by head coach Bill Parcells, although Zimmer had no prior experience with it.
When Bobby Petrino was hired to coach the Atlanta Falcons early in 2007, Mike Zimmer agreed to become the new defensive coordinator in Atlanta.
Zimmer was named the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals on January 15, 2008. In 2009, Zimmer earned NFL Assistant Coach of the Year honors from Pro Football Weekly/Pro Football Writers and from CBSSports.com,[SUP][2][/SUP] after guiding the Bengals to the 4th ranked defense in the league. In 2011, the Bengals finished with the 7th ranked defense in total yards and 9th ranked defense in points allowed.
His wife, Vikki, died at their home on October 8, 2009. Three days later Zimmer was awarded the game ball by head coach Marvin Lewis after the team's 17-14 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
