It all starts up front. The Dolphins have not focused on their OL for a number of years and that is why they have struggled so bad the last few years. In my opinion, their first priority should be to upgrade the OL and I would try and do that primarily through the draft.

Here's my offseason plan(Updated 02/18/07):

FREE AGENCY (if possible, trade or acquire the following):

David Carr,
Clements,
Deilman or Steinbach,
June or Fletcher.

DRAFT PICKS:

Levi Brown OT, PSU (Round 1)
Ryan Kalil C, USC (Round 2)
Drew Stanton QB, MSU (Round 3 if available)
OLB (Round 4 BPA)
(Round 5)
CB (Round 6 BPA)
Kicker (Round 7 BPA)

Other quality OL available in the draft:

Joe Staley OT, Central Michigan (Agile, quick)
Doug Free OT, Northern Illinois (Agile, quick)
Aaron Sears OG/T, Tennessee (Versatile)
Justin Blalock OG, Texas (Mauler)
Dustin Fry C, Clemson – (Mauler)

With Carr, Stanton, Lemon and Vick the team would have some good talent with lots of potential and the team would be finally looking to the future instead of picking up someone elses garbage. The OL pickups would improve the offense significantly and would allow them to release some of the overpaid linemen that don't contribute.

That's my plan. Tell me what you think??? If you don't like it please tell me how you would make it better!

Overall, I like your plan with a few minor changes.
I'd forget about Carr, I don't know what it is about Tedford quarterbacks, but the proficiency they display in college never translates to proficiency in the NFL.
Besides I think CPep is going to get a shot at proving it was his injury that was affecting him last year.
I would love to get Clement, if for no other reason than we wouldn't have to play against him anymore, but I think we will be outbid for his services.
I definately like the way you adressed the OL.

First off.....We do not have 5th round draft pick this year, we gave it to Detroit. And as for the rest of it, I like the way you think. Lets address the OL in FA and the first couple rounds in the Draft.

your concept is great and i totally agree, this team NEEDS to get better up front on the offensive side if there is any chance for us to get out of our playoff drought. However... at our pick i still think levi brown is a reach and we have a chance at our pick of picking up a stud qb, de/olb, or safety, our 2nd round pick should definately concentrate on the oline or cornerback, but dielman is our NUMBER ONE priority for free agency. we need to regularly pick offensive linemen in the fifth, sixth, or seventh rounds as well as scrounging for undrafted linemen and develop them under houck and get a constant rotation of new and well coached youth on the oline AND develop a group thats spent some years together.

If we found a way to trade down into the 11-16 range and levi brown was there i am ALL for taking him though, using the picks we acquired we may even be able to pull off a second round trade up to nab ryan kelil but that is the ONLY way he will drop to us in the second.

This makes as much sense as any offseason plan I have seen. Teams that ignore the trenches end up losing....a lot. I think you only draft QBs early when you are desperate (total rebuild mode) and only draft RBs early when there is a likely HOF'er available. Other than that, OL, DE, DT, LB (big people) should be the earlier picks. DBs should be taken when there are special talents available but mostly in the middle rounds and WRs are the same.

its simple actually, tedford system is for quick short pases. exactly what harrington was doing during our games this year. quick short passes. it helps the QB cuz statistics look good. in NFL that donest owrk as we saw in harrington.

I say h*ll no to Carr!!! I dont want anyone elses reject QB's, Ive said it before and ill say it again, we need to groom our own QB for the future!!!

Fry was constantly dominated at the senior bowl. He was really bad. I dont know alot about him but from what i saw in the senior bowl he stunk.

I think Lt should always be your 1st priority for a franchise so hard to get a hold of.
I Know Miami will not be picking this low for a long time.
Probaly back to around 20 or worse, worst case senareo.

The good thing about offensive line man when you get a good one who have him for hopefully 14 years.

I have a feeling that is one of the major reasons why Saban pulled Culpeper. I do not think he had confidence in his LT.

Belive me my heart would rather draft one of those good DT's we need or a heart LB. But the rules I think say LT 1st.

Solid plan IMO. My revisions are in highlighted italics.

I still think we're going to do everything in our power to aquire Brady Quinn. OL is a great need for this team but we are in a position this year to trade a few spots down and aquire (hopefully) a franchise QB. That probably won't be the same for years to come and personally I don't think next years QB crop is that great other than Brian Brohm which will probably go top 5. And who's to tell what the future holds after that. Us Dolphins fans have cried about not getting a franchise quarterback in here ever since Dan left and Cameron is finally going to take heed to this. Even a great LT can't make a horrible QB look great. But a great QB can make his offense look good.

The fact of the matter is, a LT is not what people remember when they think of a team. Fans remember QB's. Being an offensive guy, and noticing the side of the ball with our greatest needs, Cam will give us our quarterback of the future this year. Our OT can be found this year later in the draft, in free agency or next years draft. QB's make or break teams. And ever since Dan left, we have been broken.

It's going to be a new era for the Dolphins starting next year. And you start at QB. I'm a huge Daunte supporter but even if he does come back this year hes still going to be 30 years old. It's time to groom a young man with talent. And I can't see Cam or Randy thinking any other way.

What???? I didn't know it was that simple. Might as well resign Damian Mcintosh to a long-term deal. :shakeno:
