bear with me guys im gonna ask alot of questions, but this just baffles me.

if harrington was going to get a start early in the season, it's hard to figure how it would be week 5 at new england in a must win game cuz we're coming in at 1-3. doesn't make sense. daunte practiced today, and though he certainly isn't 100% and hasn't been so far this season, he's supposed to be "the man" and our starter. shouldn't he be out there for a crucial game like this? if he was having shoulder issues why wouldn't they sit him vs the texans in a game you'd think we could win with joey at qb and bring him back this week for new england? is daunte's shoulder really that bad? and did it just all of the sudden get that way on wednesday or thursday (whenever it was he didn't practice)? anyone that has pitched or played qb knows that if you have a nagging shoulder injury you need rest, and not just 1 day. so why did daunte practice on friday? if he's not playing on sunday then he shouldn't even be picking up a football right now. i can't help but wonder if saban isn't using this as an opportunity to run joey out there and see what happens. if it blows up, the story is daunte's shoulder is better now from the rest and he will start in week 6 at the jets. but what if joey moves the ball and puts points on the board and our offense looks like, well, an offense? and if we win how does saban not run harrington back out there next week? you think i got questions now, wait til harrington wins at new england, daunte starts in week 6 at the jets and we lose. how would nick explain that? ok im done. my head is gonna explode...

Same thing I was thinking. I mean, we played Tennessee and Houston since he injured his shoulder against Buffalo [an injury that I didn't know about and most didn't know about since yesterday as there wasn't any report about this 2 weeks ago..]. Either he "injured" it more in the Houston game, or there is more to this that we really don't know about.

There could be a Million theories....Mine is  that Pepper looked bad against the simulated NE front in Practice and Joey looked OK...Joey seems to read defenses pretty well and is decisive in his decisions...maybe because the Detroit O-lines all sucked who knows :D But he might be better for the short term...let him take the beat down for a while till the line either improves or they dont.

He should, and in all likelihood will be.

The "Harrington's starting on Sunday" stuff is being generated largely by the wishes of Culpepper haters and a local sports media looking for a story. Though personally, I think Saban's just playing the media to give Belichick something extra to think about.

well I think Culpepper's injury became more serious in the past week or so. Duante was good to go in the past 4 games, so he started. It seems to me that as the week went on, his shoulder became more and more nagging and therefore he missed practice on Thursday. As far as Joey is concerned. I think he'll start Sunday if Culpepper's injury is a big problem. I also think that if Culpepper starts but struggles early, he will be yanked.

might be because daunte is lost with our offensive gameplan. he's had preseason plus 4 games to get it right and he still looks confused out there. joey seemed to have a better grasp of whats going on in preseason. i hope we give joey a shot. if it dont work out then put pepp back in next week and buckle up finfans , it will be a long year. it will take pepp about that long to be into the offense like we expected, but as our luck goes mularkey will be canned and we'll start from scratch again. sorry for the pessism guys but ive grown accustom to this joke of a franchise i root for every year.

Culpepper has been sacked so many times this season that any quarterback would take a toll from the beating he has gotten. It is not really a question about "giving" Harrington a start. Harrington will start if Saban does not feel Culpepper is healthy enough. Saban does NOT like quarterback controversies. Last season that was evident when Saban would not switch quarterbacks even after Rosenfels played well. Culpepper is a pro bowl quarterback when he is at the top of his game. We know what Harrington can do and it is no where near the level that Culpepper can be on. It just seems rediculous to bench a former mvp calibur quarterback in favor for a castoff at Detroit. I know that Culpepper has not played the whole season but I am tired of fans not giving him any chance.

But why would a player listed as "probable" be in a "game time decision" situation? Usually, that happens when a person is questionable, not probable.

I too think Culpepper will start, but to bring in Joey Harrington into the subject this week is pretty suspicious. Then on 790, Nick Saban is talking about Joey Harrington and his quick reads, and that's what the team is looking for offensively.

Maybe I'm thinking too much into this, but overall I think Culpepper starts; Culpepper will have to lead us and have to break the 20 point barrier to win this game (something we have yet done this season, even the Raiders has scored over 20 points this season..), as the Patriots can be pretty explosive and bring in points both offensively and defensively.

You answered your own question. We are starting Joey because the season is on the line and Saban doesn't think Daunte can win this game.

From MiamiDolphins.com :

"He wants to play in the game and we have to make a decision whether he's physically capable of doing that," Saban said. "He practiced OK today. ... We want to put him in a situation where he can be successful. If we feel like he can do that, he'll be ready to go in the game. If that's not the case, then that's why Joey was brought here."

"I think everybody knows he's not the Daunte of the way he's played before, relative to his mobility, movement, quickness, explosive quickness," Saban said. "By the cumulative effect of some of the hits and so forth that he's taken in the games, I just noticed that maybe this was having some effect on him."

He also had this to say about Culpepper (From palm beach post):

"I respect the hell out of a guy that will put his career on the line and everything else on the line because he wants to play and he wants to be on the team. Sometimes you have to make a decision to protect people from themselves. There could be a boxer somewhere that had five concussions and maybe it’s time to say, ‘let’s wait awhile until you box again.'"

Wow..

It all sounds like a scheme of saving face. Saban wants to bench Culpepper but If he does he has to admit he made a big mistake spending that kind of money + 2nd round pick on a QB than many said was done. This is a very convient injury for all involved now Joey will get thrown under the bus by Saban while Nick goes into damage control mode. :shakeno: He had better hope all the critics were wrong about Joey or it's more of the same coming his way. I imagine Gus isn't looking so bad these days to Miami fans.

Gus never did look bad to some of us. I couldn't believe we let him go.

I completely agree. Daunte will get the start but if he struggles at all AT ALL then Joey will be thrown in right away. I think that's why Joey has been getting most of the snaps with the first team in practice.
