From Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback column:
Okay, I know there's nothing really that bad about this particular quote... but making assumptions like this about the '72 Dolphins is unfortunately close, I think, to the opinion you occasionally hear that goes "I hope the Colts do go undefeated... just so the '72 Dolphins can't have their party."
I believe many people fundamentally misunderstand the '72 Dolphins celebration: the aren't celebrating someone else losing, they're celebrating how special it is to have been a part of an undefeated team. Should the Colts go undefeated this year, why couldn't the '72 Dolphins throw the biggest party yet... inviting all the newest members of the undefeated season club?
It's too bad the timing of the champagne-popping party irks some people... at this point, I think graciously adding more members to their club is the only way the '72 Dolphins will get some critics off of their backs and cast the event as it is: a celebration of a significant event in NFL history.
I want to be able to get my dander up and tell Dungy to do what the fans would want, what the game would love and what, quite frankly, every person associated with football except Indy's foes down the stretch and the '72 Dolphins want to see.
