Ok there are 2 views of Henne on this site. Some love, some hate. Me, I love the guy. I can see a great future for him in this league. Maybe even a premier qb some day. However the qb position is bs for the most part. (I can hear all of you typing your smart as-s response now) However here is my point................. wait for it.....................................

Trent Dilfer! What did the superbowl champ Ravens have that we dont? A monster Defense and people who can catch the damn ball. Even if you have a crappy or average qb if the receiver can catch the ball no matter how ugly thats all that matters.

Just like the colts and saints with the phins. If your defense dosent let the other team run up and down the field then your Pee Paw could play qb and still look like dan marino. Defense wins championships. Always was, always will be.

Let er rip fellas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so tom brady, peyton manning, drew brees are just along for the ride on thier teams

Better yet....Kurt Warner, rams...what kind of D did he have...

We need a stronger D...you're right...but...dont say any qb can win a title...what "average" QB would have drove the ball down the Pats throat in the Superbowl to beat them? Eli Manning, way above average...
Or Tom Brady driving against the Raiders years back...
Look at the past...Most QBs in the Superbowl, are pretty solid QB's if not HOF material...
Brady, Ben, Eli, Peyton-all won the past few Superbowls...average?

Yes Bone you are exactly Right. Well half right. I'll give you Manning cuz he is a sick freak. I wont give you brady cuz last year we saw in the parcells system, Castle got them to 11-5 and almost won the divison. Of course a great qb makes a better team but my point is if allow easy points all game long you are never gonna catch up.

Wow you can name 1 QB who rode the coat tails of a great run game and great defense.

and of course Big Ben wins it again in 2008

So your point is?

Can't disagree about a stalwart Defense, but do disagree about the need for a quarterback who can provide the difference in keeping them rested on the sidelines. At this point considering what Henne has shown over the last 3 games, (yes, even Sunday's), IMO, there aren't too many objective fans left who "hate" him. It appears a majority is now bullish about the future with Henne under center; however there's a another decently-sized faction who'll concede that he's exceeded their expectations, be it begrudgingly or enthusiastically, but are far from ready to anoint him as the next coming.

It's not uncommon for moderately talented QB's to win SB's with AMAZING defenses.

Dilfer, Brad Johnson, and Big Ben's first SB come to mind. But, it's more common to win with a complete team - Patriots, Giants, Colts (their D had a great run in the playoffs), and the Steelers last season.

So, if you're playing the odds, you try to build a complete team - rather than just building a stacked D.

Man I love you guys who take the time to search the internet for stats and names. Comeon now. You have to accept the premise of the thread. Duh! A great QB can be a difference maker but this team is not in that situation.

If our defense was stout and we had receivers we win that game sunday and we beat the great manning and the colts!

as much as last year was great...Dirk, we are rebuilding...Two years ago, we were 1-15...give it time...we are still adding pieces to this big puzzle called an NFL roster...

Trent Dilfer has been the poster child for the hope of Dolphins fans for quite a while. strong defense, strong running game etc. sounds like the Wannstedt-era over again. it is true, Dilfer won the SB. but how many times has a very average QB won the SB? it doesn't happen ferequently. look at the past SB winners. all of them had to rely on the QB at some point to win the SB.

Having Henne play now, is a big deal for MIA in the future. With each snap of the football, he learns something new.

While I understand your point, you do know Dilfer didn't start the season til about week 5 or 6, because they weren't scoring TD's. Dilfer came in and did something T. Banks couldn't do, manage a game. But even then Dilfer and his double digit INTs got by because of that ELITE defense. Dilfer completed that team better than Banks that year.

FinsFan I'm not upset about it. Just stating the facts. I agree with you totally.

Actually your not stating any facts, you just picked one decent situation in one year. If that was the case then where are all of Baltimore`s other championships? Their defense has been great for along time and they always could rush the ball well.

I want a great defense and great run game as much as anyone and I believe our run game is good enough to win a championship. Our defense has a couple of large holes still to be filled, I believe we need a dominant FS and 1 excellent play making ILB, the Dline needs alittle help and we can get by with JP, JT, Wake, Moses but some more youth would be nice. Wr is a need but maybe not as much as a TE threat.

FA should be able to fill the gaps at WR and even TE (C.Henry, D.Clark would be a great start).

Wilfork/Hampton are not desparate needs but would be awesome upgrades.

I honestly would make a huge trade to move up in the draft to get Berry, there`s not a single other player in the draft that would help us more. The top ten picks will be loaded with teams that need a QB and LT (Tenn, Wash, STLou, Jack, Cara, Oak, Clev). TB, Det, KC could be good trading partners to move up, needing much more then one player so a package of players and picks would be possible.

I hope this draft is defense, defense and more defense. We have a QB that looks to be much better then Dilfer so some help on offense and fixing the glaring holes on defense would go a long way for contention next year.
