Whether it's offense or defense, the bare bones of the game come from the trenches. Now all you guys know that I've been an advocate for McFadden, a little bias due to I'm from Arkansas......but in all honesty I'm extremely excited by all this talk about Jake Long. Dude is an absolute monster. Its a shame he's being judged by the one sack he gave up to Gholston. I know he's gonna provide Beck with those precious few seconds he needs to make that perfect throw. If I knew that I was gonna be bull rushed with no protection I might fumble it up in the air like a hot potatoe too. But with the help of this tank in Long on the left side I believe he's poised to make a huge impact on the team.

On the special teams signings.....this can't be emphasized enough IMO. Special teams can be the deciding factor in almost every instance. Think of how much momentum can be gained/shifted due to a huge play on a kickoff or a return. BP has the complete right idea when you sit back and see the big picture. I'm really excited to watch this Keith Davis kid. The captain of SP in Dallas eh?? I like that. We need all that leadership in every unit of our team.

anyways, just me ramblin.....peace my brothers!!

Well said, great post!!!

Most great teams have very solid lines on both sides of the ball. I think our o-line has improved and we are not committing as many false starts, but sometimes the blocking just isn't there, and we sometimes have breakdowns which ends up with Beck getting killed or running for his life. I think Jake Long and maybe a Guard like John Greco would fix this.

We also I believe gave up the most yards in rushing last year. I am concerned about our defensive tackles/nose guards.....you can't keep going with old Tractor Traylor. I think Bill will shore this up in our 3-4. We gotta win it in the trenches more than anywhere else.

Which is why they HAVE to take one of the Long's.

The problem with this team over the last several years is that as equally inconsistent as our Quarterbacks have been we really haven't had a solid line to protect them. Its starting to look good now with Satele and Carey blossoming but Jake Long could be that final piece.

And on the defensive side of the ball we've all seen how good the Dolphin defense had been under Saban with guys like Holliday, Traylor, Carter and Jason Taylor who ended up having his best year. They need to rebuild that success with younger guys on the defensive side, a guy like Chris Long would be great for that.

I would be totally happy with either of them. If I'm running out of milk, I'll grab a new jug from the store before I run out. JT jug is almost empty, Chris Long is a perfect investment. Either of these two are picked I'll be toasting the shots with everyone!!

Love the analogy.

Ive been on the draft the biggest nastiest Left OT you can find bandwagon for the past few years. Lets face it our Oline has sucked for a a long time (ricky made them look a lot better than they were). Im Still not a fan of carey at tackle ( would rather see him at guard and pick up a beast like Max Starks for the other tackle) but I think Jake long could help our line and offense and QBs tremendously more than Chris long will help our DL and defense.

Remember if you cant score points it doesnt matter how good your defense is.

Agree on that, bro. When building a new house, you start with the foundation. i know it's a simple analogy, but It's true......now the Mcfadden thing.....good you came around. HaHa!:up:Good job!

Vernon Carey is way better then Max Starkx at left and Right Tackle.

Like I said before

our line should look like this next season.
Jake Long- Justin Smiley- Samson Satele- Drew Mormino- Vernon Carey, if those guys play well together you lock them up and Ted Ginn for multiple years. I was so sick of the right side of our o-line getting blown up on every play.

Also I was one of the people saying to get Chris Long but now I want Jake Long. Our problems weren't OLBs it was the DT position/MLB.

heck since we want to start in the trenches lets just get the most expensive line money can buy by 2009 season. pick up long with the 60 mil contract as first pick (which is who i really want) what smiley makes 5 a year i think (i could be wrong havent seen contract since we signed him), sataele isnt too bad price wise due to 2nd round status, in 09 move carey to guard after a 6 mil a year extension. and since im from nc, lets bring in jordan gross for another 60 mil. im sure if ricky hasnt smoked out or ronnies knee hasnt given out, our 30 million dollar a year oline will give us 5+ ypc and beck 10-15 secs to let ginn run to end zone and throw up the arm.

but realistically everyone says jake long would be the good pic cause it would help our entire o out but it doesnt benefit defense. if we have a pound it out offense that can sustain consistent 7-9 minute drives then the d gets more rest. the 06 season the panthers ran every play against the falcons in the first quarter and kept the ball the entire time. if we could just run ricky 5 times put ronnie in bust him up 5 times and switch. i say we have a better chance of giving up less points by process of elimination. so lets get that oline beefed up.

....btw. if the dline is beat up by the 4th quarter they cant get to beck/mcnown so we can get the deep ball to ted ginn gone

The reason we need to draft Jake Long is because we are already out of milk!

Look at what Ronnie did with a terrible line last year and
Just imagine what Ronnie could do behing a line with Long, Mormino, Satele, Carey, Smiley...
