I know ppl are saying we did horrible last night, but I saw lots of improvement! First, the passing game looked better than anytime under the Fiedler reign. Feeley was doing well, the drop by Thompson stalled a drive and the missed blocks killed his chances of going downfield. Frerotte, however, looked better, but I believe that is just because he is more comfortable. Either Qb is gonna be an upgrade over Fiedler for this upcoming season.
In the secondary, Bell looked fast and Tillman had a nice breakup. Not to mention Schulters is still learning the system, I think we are ok there. At Cb we need to find a nickel cb and I am hoping Howard can handle that. He looked terrible on the outside. Madison has always been bad in run support(gonna miss Surtain), but he played well in pass coverage. NE won the SB with two rookies at CB and neither of them are great and Rodney Harrison is strictly run support. So we can get by with our Secondary.
What we need imo is for Chester and Traylor to get in shape and up to full speed so that we can stop the run. If we have to rely on Zgonina and other backup type D-lineman on first down to stop the run we are in trouble. I am confident with a healthy and in shape Chester and Traylor we can jam up the run inside. Also, I loved the blitzes and Chicago did have pressure on them from the blitzes.
I hope our o-line can jell and from left to right be Carey, James, Hadnot, Middleton and McDougal. IMO St.Clair and McKinney get pushed around too much and McIntosh is too slow. Whitley is not worth mentioning. It was only their first game and hopefully they can be cohesive by Sept. Gordon also looked lost in block protection.
Anyhow, I am pleased with how the passing game looked after one game and I expect to see improvement and I think I will. What does everyone else think. Other than this post was too long and could have been merged.
