After initially thinking for over a week that it would be stupid to release Beck (assuming he has no trade value), I am finally OK with it if he is released. Part of what really frustrates all of us Dolphin fans is that another 2nd round pick has been wasted. A.J. Feeley, Daunte Culpepper and now John Beck - all wasted 2nd round picks on QBs! Three 2nd round picks on most good NFL teams equate to two starters and a Pro Bowl player, yet we have nothing. These wasted picks (and many others) have really hurt the talent level of the Dolphins and I am so pissed at the various bone heads who had been running this organization since Jimmy Johnson retired.

I and many other Dolphin fans like Beck better than McKown and we think Beck has more upside, but we don't call the shots. Parcells and company know their football, and if they don't think he has a future in the league, than so be it. They will just keep turning over the roster until they are satisfied with the skill level at each position. We just have to trust their judgement, like it or not. Besides, we acquired Pennington for no draft picks and Henne looks good, so we are now decent at QB.

As far as Beck being a Parcells guy, I think he has the traits Parcells admires such as working hard and being completely devoted to football - so that is not the issue. There is no conspiracy against Beck from Parcells and the coaches. Also, I don't think Parcells is so vain that he can only have people he hand picked on the team. Parcells wants to win, and if a good player he didn't hand pick can help, he will welcome that player and not hesitate to use him. Although I constantly read about how accurate and strong armed Beck is in various blogs, he quite frankly hasn't looked good in actual games. The only TD of his career (against the Cincinnati) was on a busted coverage. That's it. But his fumbles and under thrown passes were many. I hope Beck does make the team (when he was picked last year I hoped he might be our next Bob Griese - as there will never be another Dan Marino), but if he doesn't it will mean that Parcells doesn't think he play - not that he isn't one of his guys. Parcells wants the best hard working players he can get to turn things around to get us to the Super Bowl, and all of us want this too.

can everyone stop making beck threads. Its getting annoying

No offense, Lecanto. But their have been like 15 threads about beck and its getting annoying.

I have been an avid reader of FinHeaven threads for several years but I rarely post. I also realize the Beck threads are getting very old. But I really had high hopes for him and it is not often that a 2nd round pick gets released (possibly) after one season. I am just trying to rationalize the move and vent about it at the same time. I still haven't gotten over the Dolphins playoff loss to the Oakland Raiders in 1974 when I was eight years old and only a Super Bowl victory will ever get rid of that pain. Keeping up my ardent enthusiasm for the Dolphins has not always been easy over the past 34 years, primarily due to the team's overall lack of talent which has translated into mostly average to above average results - but no Super Bowl victories. If Beck is let go, than I at least hope this regime has a better eye for talent and we can stop wasting draft picks on players who don't pan out so that we can become world champions again!

Why? Is he making too much sense? Still not ready to move on from Beck are you?

Somebody needs a little help with their reading comprehension skills. Don't you worry though, I'll help you out. Apparently, he's tired of reading redundant threads about Beck; seeing the same thing posted over and over ad nauseum. That tells me that he's already moved on and doesn't want to keep rehashing the same old rhetoric. If he wasn't ready to move on, as you are stating, he probably wouldn't mind continuing to see the threads about Beck.

Of course all the Beck homers are tired of the threads now. Up till a week or so ago they couldnt get enough of them. Now they just personally bash even more than they did before. They dont even bother trying to defend his efforts to play QB.

I feel for Beck and his supporters. Instead of breaking him in at home against the Bills, Cam opted to wait until we played at the Vet. Then he plays in a mud bowl and at Buffalo. Tough environment for a rookie QB who an entire organization and fans all over the world are screaming for so that we can annoint him as "The Future". He got run over made some mistakes and got yanked because the players went to the Cam and wanted Cleo to play. During the off season he worked hard but the Trifecta grabbed Henne (a smart move at the time) and he is most likely the future. Some fans feel that Beck did not get a chance. Maybe not but we do have a solid prospect in Henne so it makes sense to move Beck to another team where he can get a fresh start. He has skills but the only way we will see them is if he is the starter for a visiting team. I agree it sucks to waste yet another draft choice but the QB position is a tough position to fill. Those of us waiting to see the next #13 need to realize there most likely won't be one. Embrace Pennington and Henne. They are solid QB's. They won't break Danny's records but I bet they do some pretty good things.

thats where youre wrong. wer not beck homers. we try to give him a chance, you know what fans do. we defend against you guys who arent smart to realize that you cant use last year as a reason to say he is bad.

but whatever, i dont really care anymore. I just want what best for this team, and if that means getting rid of beck, then do it.

Nice post, you summarize my thoughts on the matter quite well.

I totally agree. If Beck does move on these things, at least, are true. 1. The guy worked his butt off and did his absolute best to give the Dolphins everything he had. 2. Because of # 1 he deserves to be treated with respect and not called "garbage", a "loser", "worthless", etc. by a bunch of weirdos. I'm with TG. As long as a player gives his all to the Dolphins he deserves to be respected while he is here. We all like some players better than others and root for them to succeed (I'm a Devone Bess guy, myself) but I'm not going to call Camarillo or Kircus "garbage" because I like Bess. Wanting Henne or McCown over Beck is fine but shouldn't warrant the crazy attacks on Beck. The guy deserves respect and if you don't know how to give it, it says a lot more about you than it says about John Beck. ;)
