As horrible as 2004 was for us Dolfans, 2005 has been a great year. After watching tonight's debacle, it helps to be reminded of all the good news that made this year so exciting.
Remember how excited we were and how it seemed to take forever to finally find out that Nick Saban was our new Head Coach? Then the steady stream of Assistant Coaches, most notably Scott Linehan and Hudson Houck, were announced. Even the idiotic name of a bankrupt company, Pro Player, was finally retired and our stadium was returned to us, now called Dolphin Stadium.
The best draft we have ever had followed with great anticipation. The fan favorite, Ronnie Brown, was chosen and most of us generally approved of the rest of the picks.
A much better than anticipated free agency was enjoyed this year, luring such veterans as Kevin Carter, Lance Shulters, Keith Traylor, Stockar McDougle and others. Even Ricky and David Boston found their way back home, much to everyone's surprise.
Finally, the guy who brought most of us to become Dolfans, Dan Marino finally got his due and was enshrined into the Hall of Fame.
What a great year. Saban will surprise us with this year. He is too good to let a debacle like tonight's game happen frequently this year. He will make changes, bring exciting schemes, and coach up the players we have to play decent football this year, but not championship football. We have to be patient....admittedly not one of my strong suits.
It's Been a Great Year for Dolfans, but reality is quickly upon us and the dreams of summer will be quickly leaving us. Tonight's game was a rude reminder that dreaming is sometimes so much more fun that reality. In time, we can open our eyes and Saban will be finished with the ugly amputation necessary to bring back the mighty Miami Dolphins we all love and remember fondly.
