which is worse? A bad shoulder or a bad knee? I personally think the shoulder is far more worrisome than a knee. I mean Dan Marino couldn't run to save his life. Still put up some good numbers.

As far as the shoulder I keep picturing Chad Pennington.

Running was NEVER part of Dans game. Culpepper used his legs to get himself where he is at.

Culpepper blew his entire knee out. Many players struggle to come back from a torn ACL or MCL, Culpepper tore all 3 ligaments in his knee. Even if he does come back his risk of re-injuring is going to be very high.

Brees has an injury that does worry people. The think is that even though it is his shoulder, his injury isn't as severe as what Culpepper's is. He had arthroscopic surgery, if it was a major rotator cuff tare they would have cut his arm open for the surgery.

Pennington had a very severe arm injury. Brees's injury is not even close.

Wait........so you mean to tell me that Daunte ran the ball 60 yards downfield to Randy Moss all those times, not passing it? I don't think so my man. Daunte's got a cannon for an arm. His arm has always been a major part of his game. He could learn to become a pocket passer. Brees' injury is worrysome because of the role the shoulder plays in passing the ball.

BINGO!

Also, as I said before, if you have to use Dan as a basis for comparison to make your point, you have already lost. He was the greatest passer ever.

There are 4 knee ligaments. As I understand it, Carson Palmer tore all 4. Still, tearing 3 is darn bad. Carson Palmer also isn't the size of a linebacker, something that I imagine will complicate Culpepper's return.

WHatever...I'd take EITHER ONE OF THEM RIGHT NOW over the guys we've been seeing. I dont see how ANYBODY can be SOO high or LOW on any of these guys.

He does have a cannon, but he made his best success on being mobile. Not necessarily running for 30 yards down the field, but being able to move around in the pocket and get out of trouble in order make plays with his arm. His restructured knee will also affect his throwing. He still has to set is legs and get into his throwing motion. QBs who had this severe a knee injury often can't get the velocity they used to get (Simms, Doug Williams, etc)...The point is that the stability of the knee does affect the throwing motion and that has to be considered. Perhaps he'll come back nearly to where he was before (he'll never be as good), but it will take time. This is similar to the injury that Robert Edwards suffered...not quite as bad, but similar. Even his own doctors (Cul) have said it is a full calendar year recovery time. That means he may not be ready or at least fully recovered until mid November ?? Brees, at least from a recovery standpoint will be ready by mid-August...Brees is 2 years younger. Is there a chance he'll be another Chad...sure...on the other hand, Cul could be another Simms...And don't think that lack of mobility won't affect him...Look at Danny, had he even had the same knees that he came out of college with, he'd have had a longer career...the problem was that as there was more and more damage, he couldn't set his feet and get the same velocity that he once had...Culpepper will probably have the same issues...Now, he's young enough that he may be able to adjust his game, but that's not what we'd be paying for....

Both have question marks....one is not less serious than the other...the only difference between these two guys is age...I'd go with the younger option....

hes bigger than a linebacker. 6'5" 280 more like a DT

people just read the thread over the doctors opinions of the seriousness of the injuries and you will see brees' shoulder is more of a concern

Really that is interesting seeing how they were just talking on ESPN about Culpepper. His docs already said that he wont even be able to play until mid season at best. That sounds a little more serious than, being able to start training camp.

Then to build on top of that you think that once Culpeppers knee is better mid-season we are going to replace our QB with him if we are winning? Then to sweeten the pot the Raiders have already offered a 3rd round and they didn't take it. There is no way we give up a 2nd round pick for a QB that we cant even evaluate his knee before the trade. That is worse the Rick S. giving up a 2nd for A.J. Feeley.

If Daunte does everything he's supposed to and heals fine, the rate of re-injuring his leg again is the same as if the injury didn't happen. The rate doesn't increase. Same as if you tear your ACL, MCL etc. I heard he was doing an aggressive rehab schedule and is committed to it. When he heals it will be about 2 years before he can play the way he used to. But having the arm and accuracy he has I'm sure he can adapt and compensate for not being able to take off and run. He'll be able to scramble around pressure. A lot of what people are saying makes it sound like he's a gimp for life and will just stand there.

The other difference is that we have all the info we could want about Brees' shoulder. We don't have permission to examine DC (Vikings have denied it to every team). All we know about DC's injury is that it was initially much more severe than Brees' and that the Vikings say "he'll be fine, trust us".
