Only issue with having $150M in cap space is....take a look at recent transactions and how many upcoming free agents are signing extensions with their current teams.
Some of the top-rated guys who were set to become 2020 free agents are already off the list.

I'm not sure what model people are basing this tanking opinion on. Super Bowl teams are not just built on tanking to get a first-round pick.
History shows that the majority of super bowl winners are built the old fashioned way. getting the first pick in the draft means absolutely nothing as dolphin fans can attest to since we had one in 2007.
we also had a couple of top three picks in recent history. teams are not built by putting crap out on the field.

I think it’s more about the fact that we have failed to secure a franchise QB since Marino retired, and this draft looks like it has a very strong QB class headed (at least as of this writing) by Tua, who is one of the best looking prospects to come out this decade. There are no sure things, but Tua sure looks as close as it comes.
Having said that, there is a risk to tanking, not sure how good the Browns actually are, but we have basically been running up an endless sand dune for the past 20 years or so and whilst we had opportunities to get franchise QB’s (Rodgers, Brees, etc.) we didn’t and our best chance right now if you believe in this class and Tua in particular is to draft 1st.
However, it’s possible that this coaching staff and Front office won’t survive the tank because to loose every game which certainly seems possible does put a stank on the franchise, it’s reputation, and it’s front office. However, the hope is that with the cap space, and draft capital that we have, we can actually turn this around quickly if we bring in the right players.
Unfortunately, the front office hasn’t really demonstrated enough to justify this faith, but we can only hope and at least we are trying something different. We have blown up the mediocrity, replaced it with the horrible (scorched earth) in the hopes that we can rebuild from the ground up in a way we have never done before.
But, it’s gonna be ugly... very ugly.
This is not a one year turn around if anyone has not figured that out yet. Over the next two years they hopefully will rebuild the OL, draft a #1 QB and sign free agents to fill the holes. After that point hopefully they can claw back into the mix, 3-4 years at best. So after one game the people lighting torches and breaking out pitchforks is really absurd. Go find another team to be a fan of because this is gonna be a long haul.
Just because Miami has $150M in cap space next season doesn't mean players will come. Look for players who've had previous links to the coaching staff to be prime targets. My guess is, IF Miami somehow signs these F/A it may be over pays on the contract numbers. This is going, to more than likely, be done through the draft. I also believe that it's no slam dunk that a player who could be the #1 overall pick will want to play for Miami. I suspect there are going to be some draft eligible players who tell Miami outright not to draft them. Its ugly. I just don't know how it got this bad. Your paid to play the game.

Actually we do have enough draft picks to draft us into a contender … assuming we hit at an average rate. There's tons of cap space to fill in the role players with veteran FA's as long as we don't do the Miami thing and go after high end stars. We have young talent in the secondary (X., Minkah), DL (Christian), and possibly LB (Jerome). On offense we have young talent at TE (Gesicki) and OL (Deiter). We have some decent role players (Devon Godchaux, Jesse Davis, Durham Smythe, Chandler Cox). That's 8 players there. We either have or can find specialists in FA, so that covers K, P, and special teamers. That leaves 14 more starters, plus another 4 specialists (Nickel, Dime, 34 LB, 3rd WR) for a total of 18 players. We have 4 first rounders and 4 second rounders in the next two drafts, that's 8. Figure we add 2 more per draft, that's 12 of the 18. Leaving 6 more for UDFA's and FA's over the next two years. That is enough to build out an entire team. And, we're likely to keep more than the players listed, so we can build this team through the next two drafts.
It's hard to see now, because we're at the beginning of the journey, and nobody has learned the systems well yet. The team is disjointed, thinking rather than instinctively acting. We're blowing assignments everywhere. And, everyone is young, and still adapting to the NFL. But, we will improve, and this season will forge a handful of players who will form the core of Coach Flo's vision. Mixing in the 2020 and 2021 drafts, we have a real opportunity to build something special. It may not look like it now … but this humbling, humiliating day may be the start of something great.

There is one way to build a good football team and that is to have people that can evaluate talent and coach players tanking does nothing to achieve this. Top quarterbacks are taken every year and many of those teams never reach the pinnacle. No reason to think Tua is a better prospect than other guys who have led their teams to no championships. Houston and Baltimore did not have to tank to find their quarterbacks they just had smart people making these decisions.
we could have brought in an actual good evaluator and let him build a team instead of keeping Grier and deciding that the only way to get good players is to put garbage out on the field.

You know what? I can’t argue with any of that, you are right. We could’ve drafted Rodgers way back when, and we could’ve traded up for Mahomes, in fact we were closer to that draft pick where he was drafted than the chiefs. We could’ve traded back and drafted Lamar Jackson last year and picked up an extra draft pick or two.
I support the concept of rebuilding, but I wasn’t sure trading Tunsil was such a great idea, because I wasn’t sure even with all of those picks we got for him we would be able to replace that level of talent (the rest of the country I think doesn’t appreciate him). But, on the other hand, if we choose wisely which as you say there is no evidence of us doing thus far, then that is an awful lot of draft capital and salary cap room to rebuild this roster quickly. The Dallas Cowboys of the 90s are the only team that was 1-15 bad JJ’s first year, and then with that Herschel Walker trade became the dynasty of the mid 90’s. Not sure Grier and the FO can do as well as JJ did, but at this point, I embrace the tank with my hands over my eyes.

Ross is a fool. I’d hire Grier to tear it down, because he has proven to be quite competent in doing that, but I’d hire someone else to build it back up.

I asked my buddy during the game "what player starting for us would start for the Ravens?" We came up with X and that is it. Likely one of the wr could, and Sanders would for most teams, but Tucker is the best in the league.
This team may be one of the worst in history. There is probably 3 above average starters on the entire team. The offensive line is a collection of guys of other teams scrap heaps a week earlier. Lets hope they get it right in a few years.
