Let me tell you, it is not an exaggeration to say I LOVE the dolphins. And I took last night's loss hard. I felt pretty bad about the loss and then I see Saban and C-pep and they had that same sad look. Just think how much rougher it was for them. But all of us as a Dolphin nation considered this to be a measuring stick. There is nothing better than making a statement on the road.
And the loss really hurt. I couldn't sleep until 2 am central time. I woke up in the middle of the night. I woke up in the morning and didn't remember for about 60 secs, and then I did and the dread returned.
Ok, I know you're thinking I need to get a life, but don't bother. I like it this way.
And after a couple of seasons of not playing in big games, we had one. But, we are alive again on the football map. We matter. Sure, it felt like a playoff loss, at least to me. But it wasn't. We need to take advantage of our soft schedule and pile up the victories, and play at home in the playoffs. Let's make this a development year where we start to learn how to win big games.
As for evaluation, four concerns:
(1) At some point we need to get an athletic left tackle in here that can move. A franchise left tackle. It might take a first round pick. I'd like to see some athleticism added to the unit. Berger and Toledo can do that, but sooner or later we need a franchise left tackle. That position has gone neglected way too long.
(2) We have to get Jason Allen mentally prepared. We need his explosiveness back there. In addition to J Allen, we're gonna need another shutdown corner back there. As Madden said, we need our version of Ike Taylor.
(3) We need athleticism at linebacker. Crowder should look at Foote and Farrior from Pittsburgh as role models. He needs to dedicate himself. He has the potential. We also need an outside backer that is athletic and aggressive, tough minded etc.
(4) I hope C-pep's two picks do not portend a lack of ability to make plays in crunch time in difficult circumstances. Danny would win lots of games at the end. I am not comparing C pep with Danny, nor am I throwing him under the bus. But, let's get the rust off, get him familiar with his new team, and hopefully he'll make the winning plays going forward in crunch time. That is what makes Brady special. Granted, the whole team needs to play well so that C-pep is just the chauffer of a well oiled machine, but he still needs to make winning plays one way or another.
