I'm starting to see that this team really is just a mishmash hodgepodge combination of coaches and players that have been randomly thrown together, partly because of the myriad of poor decisions by the top decision makers within the organziation (players/personnel), and partly because of the reactions taken due to these poor decisions (having to fire your HC in week 5 and replace him with an inexperienced TE coach/motivational speaker).
Coaching staff should've been handled in the offseason, understandable at this point they have no clue of what's going on as they really have no business running the team at this point (but obviously there aren't any alternatives presently) - it will HAVE to be addressed this offseason. We'll need a real HC with hopefully an accomplished staff, that has a real plan, the entire culture and everything associated with this franchise needs a complete reboot. Hell, while we're at reboot the logo too...
But just as important, and just as BROKEN, is the personnel. This isn't a team completely void of individually talented players like in 07', however this isn't a team that has cohesive talent, they're just not a team in the traditional sense - stronger together is a great idea, except when the people you have don't know how to work together nor do they complement the skill sets of the players around them - this is essential in building a successful franchise. Probably why successful franchises build through the draft, but to do that you have to have extremely intelligent people building the team in the first place and we haven't had that since the friggin 90's....think about it.
You have a piece here, a piece there, and another few pieces over there, but it's like these talented "pieces" all came from completely different jigsaw puzzles and none of them are compatible with each other, or the "system" or whatever the FO refers to the current "plan" behind this team - I use the term plan loosely, because in my gut I know there isn't really a plan and hasn't been one for a very very long time.
Basically every single facet of this team needs to be re-examined this offseason, once the coaching staff is completely scrapped and hopefully replaced by a staff that understands how to build a winning attitude from scratch, you have to figure out how to unload a lot of these players that just aren't working out. It's gonna be very painful, but an almost complete rebuild is in order (there are a few players worth keeping but less than most people think).
This team while being more talented than the 07' team, is every bit as far away from being a reliable contender as that team was and needs a MASSIVE overhaul. And some fans might be butthurt over this, but it is what it is I just hope somebody at top realizes this and can take their ego our of the equation and do what needs to be done.
The other option of course, is they'll continue to do the same thing and think just a FA there or draft pick here will magically fix everything, and we'll be sitting here in the same situation next year having the same discussion. The saddest part of all, is in my gut I'm fairly certain this is the exact direction this franchise will choose to take (unless Stephen Ross miraculously decides to unload the team on somebody else) , so I think I'll save this post so I don't have to type it out again next year.
