I'm stunned how much of the Wildcat and spread offense the Miami Dolphins are working on during these open media OTA sessions.
Either they don't care what we see, or they intentionally want to send a warning shot to the rest of the NFL. I dare not describe some of the plays I witnessed today because I'm confident a sniper would get me when exiting the team's Davie facility.
But I can't ignore that I'm seeing Wildcat so early considering I never once saw it before the team ran it against the Patriots last season. Coach Tony Sparano did say the Dolphins had only scratched the surface last season and I guess he wasn't kidding.
While these are glorified passing practices in shorts, I'd estimate that about 40 percent of Thursday's OTA session was dedicated to the Wildcat, spread, empty offensive set.
Pat White was running it. Chad Henne was running it, and even Chad Pennington was behind quarterback with the running backs lined up out wide (which is called empty). I saw more deep passes thrown to Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams and Patrick Cobbs in this practice than all of last season.

Hmm...I did say the Dolphins were going to use the spread more than 10% during a game...seems I could be right.

IMO I don't think any team in the NFL is really equipped to stop a spread attack....even in college where the majority of teams run the spread anymore, you can't really stop it, you just have to hope the QB makes a mistake.

I agree....and just ask the Pats...they use a form of the spread themselves.

Depending on who they play. Teams with a strong front 7, they take nearly overy snap from the gun with 4 and 5 wide. Even a team like the chiefs were running it quite a bit last yr. They just had nowhere near the personel to use it effectively.

I think there exploring all options at the wildcat instead of the whole pat white might throw or run bit...i mean thats the same situation except its white and not ronnie...except theres a high percentage that white will throw than ronnie. I see patrick cobbs throwing there..might be smoke but why not see what we can do with everyone

I agree, I was on record as saying we wouldn't see it in any preseason game this yr.....I guess that's not going to happen.....
