Let's list the playoff teams that have lost at home so far. Bucs, Giants, Bears, Colts, and Bengals. So far 5 of the 8 playoff games were road victories.

Yeah, it really does seem home field is becoming less and less an advantage. The crowd noise that used to be a big advantage has been lessened with the communications system used from sideline to the field and the hand signals and simpler snap cadence (or signals) used by the QB in hostile stadiums.
For the teams this year: Carolina is ususually a very good road team (6-2 this year)and Delhomme's QB rating is about 10 points higher on the road than it is at home. Pitt was 6-2 on the road this year. Plus, the winning teams on the road have outstanding defenses. Just a few thoughts. Good post, by the way.

Home Field Advantage is severely overrated in my opinion.

It is not overrated for most teams. Some teams like Pittsburgh can play just as well away as at home (maybe even better if you look at their post season home record). But most teams can't do this. Home field advantage is more than just crowd noise it also can heavily affect the players mentally. Look at teams like Denver and KC, they are completely different teams away than at home. In Arrowhead there is no team in the league the CHiefs couldn't beat, but away we struggled to put 3 points on Buffalo.

Boy, I wish you guys made the betting odds. Home field is hardly overstated. If anything it is typically underrated.
This is simply a VERY unique year in which the lowest seeds were the most physically talented and fundamentally sound teams among the lot. Just look at the yards per pass attempt, Roethlisberger at 8.90, Delhomme at 7.8. Those two guys account for 4 of the 5 road wins in these playoffs. Plus both of those teams had high number of rushing attempts including Pittsburgh leading the league at 549. The other road win was very fortunate in which Washington with Brunell at a lowly 6.72 yards per attempt couldn't gain more than 120 yards at Tampa Bay but prevailed via defense and tunovers and big plays and a drop in the end zone.
In the typical year the road teams are flawed with lesser QBs and balance and they get stomped. That will play out in the future much more often that not.

Teams win at home in the playoffs because they're the better team not because they're at home. In today's NFL where we have divisions that flat out stink, AFC SOUTH, NFC NORTH, and even NFC WEST we have 3 teams who earned homefield who really didn't have a very hard road to earn it. Therefore when challenged with good competition they crumbled like the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl. The four division re-alignment was a big mistake IMHO. Ever year since they chnaged that there are 2 or 3 divisions that are a joke.
