Burnett comes to terms with Miami

Since we all expected this, it will be no shock, but they finally agreed to a deal that will be signed as early as tom. and surely by Friday.

I'm very interested to see the terms of the deal.......

Sorry I have no link to this. I herd it on two different TV Sports shows..

Don't expect anymore big signings because after the 1.3-1.5 mil saved for draft picks, Miami will save what money they have left for injury settlements during training camp, and a possible emergency signing in case of any injuries........

I am only reposting this so it goes on the main page.

Nothing official yet, but it appears the Dolphins and DE. Rob Burnett have agreed to terms on a contract. Things could be finalized as soon as Weds.

I think it is a pretty good signing, but i hope he has alot more sacks than last year when he had 0!!!! Let's hope we didnt give him too much money!!

Dolphins Sign DE Rob Burnett As A Free Agent

[intro]The Miami Dolphins today signed free agent defensive end Rob Burnett to a two-year contract. You can listen to the Burnett press conference today at 1:00 p.m. (ET).[/intro]

The Miami Dolphins today signed free agent defensive end Rob Burnett to a two-year contract, the team announced. Burnett is a veteran of 12 NFL seasons, the first six of which were spent with the Cleveland Browns, and the last six with the Baltimore Ravens after the franchise relocated.

Originally a fifth-round draft choice (129th overall) of Cleveland in 1990, Burnett has played in 175 regular season games in his career, starting 160 of them. During this time, he has tallied 775 tackles, 67 sacks, 15 fumble recoveries, nine forced fumbles and 28 passes defensed. He also has blocked eight kicks in his career, including five field goals and three PATs. Last year, he started all 13 games in which he played and registered 48 tackles, one fumble recovery and five passes defensed. He had the most productive season of his NFL career in 2000 when he amassed 97 tackles and 10.5 sacks, in helping the Ravens to a victory in Super Bowl XXXV. In 1994, he produced 82 tackles and ten sacks as he was selected to the AFC Pro Bowl squad.

The 6-4, 270-pound Burnett was a four-year letterman at Syracuse University (1986-89), where he was a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award as a senior in 1989. During his final three years at Syracuse, Burnett’s position coach was current Dolphins defensive line coach Clarence Brooks. He also played for Dolphins defensive coordinator Jim Bates while Bates was the defensive ends coach with the Browns from 1992-93. Born August 27, 1967 in East Orange, N.J., Burnett is a native of Selden, N.Y. where he attended Newfield High School.

Terms of Burnett's two-year deal

[intro]The Dolphins beat out the Patriots to win the protracted negotiations to land former Ravens defensive end Rob Burnett.

Burnett, a 12-year veteran, agreed to a two-year, $2 million deal that included a $200,000 signing bonus. Like most veterans, Burnett was trying avoid being trapped into signing a one-year deal at the NFL minimum. He was prepared to wait until he got the right deal. Because of his conditioning and work ethic, Burnett knew the right deal would eventually come together
[/intro]

That happened Wednesday morning. Burnett will make $1 million this year and have the chances to earn another $500,000 in incentives. For the past couple of weeks, the Dolphins have been willing to pay Burnett close to $1 million, but Burnett kept waiting out the Patriots to see if they would come close.

The Dolphins had shown some interest in former Redskins defensive end Marco Coleman, who was cut last week.

Burnett, a 1995 Pro Bowl selection, was cut by Baltimore last March, one of many veterans released by the Ravens. He was a starter on their Super Bowl winner two years ago and had 48 tackles and one fumble recovery in 13 games last season.

In 1990, Burnett was a fifth-round draft choice out of Syracuse by the now-relocated Cleveland Browns' franchise.

In 175 NFL games, he has 775 tackles, 67 sacks and 15 fumble recoveries.

Information from ESPN.com's John Clayton and The Associated Press was used in this report.
