The Wildcat wasn't effective today, and only moderately successful against the Chargers.

We should only run 1-2 plays from the Wildcat per game imo, we'll only have success by catching the opp. def. off guard (the awesome flea flicker-type play for our first TD) so maybe run it once at the start of the 2nd and once in the 3rd or 4th...

Just my opinion but we need to work on the basics, which are establishing the run and the pass.

No. There are still about 4 or 5 more plays we can introduce out of this formation. Its good for around 5 or 6 plays a game and it keeps the defense off balance and gives them something else to have to prepare for. It keeps them busy. It takes away their focus from our base offense. We will score a few more times with it and off a few different plays out of this formation still. Lets keep using it for a while.

huh?
it wasnt effective today but you love the flea flicker type play?
we scored 28 points its not the O's fault we lost.
They won it for us with 100 seconds left.
If someone told me we were gonna score 28 today i would think we would walk away with a win

The game was lost because we scored too early/def. collapsed. The flea flicker was effective but the standard variation was not at all you have to admit.

I guess I should have said it differently but I don't mind seeing the flea flicker, Ronnie option, or one we don't even know about yet, these are the kinds that can still be effective imo not the ones defenses are zoning in on.

I guess we were watching a different game but i believe it worked pretty well except that we chose not to use it for about 2 quarters straight

We ran the Wildcat 8 times today (out of a total of 53 offensive snaps)

1 run for no gain was negated by a holding penalty on Satele
6 other runs gained 24 yards (4 yards per carry)
1 fleaflicker was good for a 58-yard touchdown

So it seems that a) the wildcat was very effective b) we don't run it all that much (once every 7 plays or so)

The Wild Cat isn't the reason they lost today, no aspect of the offense is. Besides i didn't feel like they were overly using it or anything. If they played an entire game out of it and couldn't get a first down, then yeah it might be time to put it away, but using it a couple of times a game, on a few drives is fine. They just need to do a better job of ball control and time of possession. If anything was wrong with the offense today it's that they were too effective, i would have liked to see Ronnie get 20 carries or so to keep their offense off the field and our defense fresh.

Are you kidding me? Really?

It hasn't been stopped for a loss once. Every time we call a running play we get a minimum of 3/4 yards. Every single time.

That is a dream situation for a football team. Having a play that is guaranteed to get you positive yardage AND has an extremely high chance to be broken for a large gain is just perfection.

Not to mention the absurd amount of pregame planning that a team has to do be prepared for the Wildcat.

It is the best thing we have going.

I agree, let the dust settle, put that play on the back burner. It's losing it's flair and with the exception of the flea flicker, every time we run it the opposing team gets better at stopping it.

The play is built on execution and the the opponent not being ready for it and we are really juicing this formation for all it's worth.

We lost this game because of poor play on special teams, great plays at the end by houston, and a late defensive collapse. Wildcat had nothing to do with any of that.

that and a change on the last play. crowder covered Shaub all day and the middle was left wide open. when the dolphins lined up i was screaming like a fool, "he's gonna cross you up, he's gonna run it." i don't know if it was an audible or not, but it appeared he planned to do it from the git-go.:err:

Really? Say what?

We lost because we scored too early? Last time I check a touchdown was worth 6 points in the first minute of the game and still worth 6 points in the final seconds of the game.

Scored too early? Really? That's ridiculous.

Now personally, I was saying all week that eventually teams are going to figure out how to stop the Wildcat. However, so far that hasn't happened and I am ALL FOR running the Wildcat until teams prove that they can stop it. And previous poster in this thread laid out every single play called today in the Wildcat formation and only ONE went for a loss.

It's not the Wildcat. We lost that game on the final play of the day my friends and that's it. Nothing more; nothing less. Houston played a solid game but ultimately we blew this game late.

Over the past two weeks between the Hurricanes and the Dolphins I can't tell you how SICK I am of watching quarterbacks step up in the pocket and beat us with their legs. Christian Ponder did it the entire game against the 'Canes and what's his name from Central Florida was doing it to the 'Canes late in the fourth quarter against us on Saturday. For Matt Schuab to be us up the gut on fourth down is simply piss-poor at best. It's not like we got pressure on the kid because that was obviously a designed play by Kubiak and the Texans.

Guys, we pissed this game away and it is NOT because of the Wildcat.
