Just a short one for this time of the year..

-Though Billy Turner was the Dolphins’ first-team right guard throughout the offseason, the Dolphins remain hopeful Jermon Bushrod – who hasn’t yet been cleared for team drills off shoulder surgery – will become a factor there. Will he be cleared for training camp?

“I got to be,” he said. “The shoulder feels strong. It’s been a long road.”

Bushrod, a former Pro Bowl tackle, has never played guard before and “it’s not easy, but I’ve embraced the process. I’m OK with it. I’ve just got to work the technique, be a little quicker, be stouter.”

Bushrod, Laremy Tunsil, Dallas Thomas, Turner, Jamil Douglas and Kraig Urbik are competing for two starting guard spots.

Hopefully he is fully healthy to at least 'push" the others.

Wow, so we could have Tunsil and Bushrod starting and have Douglas and turner as backup guards instead of starters? Does that mean no Dallas Thomas?

Please Tunsil is NOT competing with anyone. The job is his to lose.

Turner is the best case scenario because of age and ability. We should all be rooting for him.

Regardless if Turner or Bushrod starts for the first time in years we should go into the season with some solid backups

We just need to keep grinding and stay healthy through preseason. It finally looks like we will have competent depth on the OL. Couple that with allowing Thill to audible out of a bad play, and we should be adequate enough to produce on offense.

How does a guard who gives up 10 sacks - 10 SACKS - last year still be in the running for a starting position?

For christ sake!! I am so tired of the never played the position, was a tackle but needs to develope strength and technique types. Just go get a ding dang GUARD for once !!!!

Is this to much to ask folks? I try to be realistic, not get to outlandish or picky but really, isnt getting a true guard a better way to go? Bushrod is a former pro bowl tackle. Turner was an exellent college lt, but, we have both of them at guard where neither had played before. And even though i dont believe it will be this way, the talk of puting our mega talent lt, 1st round pic at guard is spooking me. Its just a no brainer to me. Stop with the square pegs in round holes philosophy and put the young, big time, athletic lt at lt and move the older, slower former guard AT GUARD and use the two pure tackles in bushrod and turner as the reserve tackles. Its just so clear to me.

However, there has to be someone besides me thats sick of the team trying to continually force tackles into being guards. It hasnt worked for us. Whats it going to take to do the things that make some resembelance of common sense for this line?

Will we see it in our lifetime?

i understand what you are saying but i would much rather have capable tackles moving to guard than the other way around. Albert usually misses games and James did last year as will. Say Bushrod starts at RG. if there is an injury he moves to the tackle spot and Turner or Douglas plays guard or just give Turner plenty of tackle reps and he goes there instead of Bushrod.

I'm happy we have several guys who can swing to tackle if needed which is usually the case.
Ideally they keep Bushrod in reserve but if he's one of the best five get that ex pro bowl guy who Gase is familiar with in the line up as RG.

I suppose this was the idea with Gase trying to get OL to play a few positions (not sure if it will work out well or not) but lets face it most likely we will see injuries and what we start with will not be what we end with - so they will probably get shuffled around in the end.

You have to be completely stupid to think Tunsil won't be starting LG. The coaches are just doing this so all of the "competition" puts forth max effort. The coaches know who will most likely start. RG is probably the only uncertainty. Relax people...
