One reason defensive end Cam Wake is playing so few snaps (16 of 80 Sunday) is the Dolphins believed Jason Jones would be more stout against the run. Another reason is they want to conserve Wake’s energy for pass-rushing downs.

But through two games, Pro Football Focus ranks Jones just 85th of 86 qualifying defensive ends against the run. Among Miami’s other ends who play a lot, Andre Branch is 60th, Mario Williams 45th.

That group was strong against the run against Seattle but struggled against New England.

Mystifying: At least twice in the past two years, LeGarrette Blount would have welcomed Dolphins interest but Miami never pursued him, according to an associate. Blount bludgeoned the Dolphins Sunday, with 29 carries for 123 yards.
Alfred Morris, who scored the winning touchdown for Dallas against Washington on Sunday, also was hoping for Dolphins interest this past March, but that never materialized. But he has only 12 carries for 42 yards this season.
• Though the Dolphins hope defensive tackle Earl Mitchell can return halfway through the season, Mitchell said Sunday he’s not sure he will be ready: “Remains to be seen.”
He said he doesn’t need surgery on his calf and instead will concentrate on rest and rehab.
Though he’s on injured reserve, the Dolphins could designate him for short-term IR if he’s ready to play at midseason.

• Respected football analytics site footballoutsiders.com gives the Dolphins the third best chance of landing the No. 1 overall draft pick and thus having the league’s worst record (10.1 percent). Cleveland is given the best sot at 23.7 percent and Jacksonville the second-best at 10.3.

Thanks Barry, let's give the tankers some ammo to fuel their narrative after week 2.

Miamis not gonna have a top 5 pick

Thats not happening barring serious attrition and i mean mission critical attrition

Let's hold off on this thread till atleast mid-way through the season. Yeah? 2 games in is beyond ridiculous.

So we lose to 2 top playoff teams by a single score and play them tough(although Pats game is debatable but we did fall shot) and we are in the running for first overall pick? Really great statistical reporting by footballoutsiders.com. There are worse teams then Dolphins, like really bad **** teams.

Did people honestly expect us to be 2-0? Probably the same people that buy lottery tickets and get their hopes up.

Now the stuff about not signing Blount or Morris is mind-boggling to me.

On the flip side

Inside the NFL (9 tonight, Showtime) has discussion on 0-2 teams that Dolphins fans will be interested in. Boomer Esiason: I do believe...
that there are a couple teams here that can actually pull themselves out of this… No. 1 for me would be the Miami Dolphins.
Esiason bases it on 2nd half vs. NE. "Adam Gase is a terrific football coach. They are starting to get something out of Tannehill."

No one expected the Dolphins to be 2-0, but their shortcomings have been painfully on display without any real options on the team for improvement. They are old, slow, and weak at multiple positions and don't have an exciting nucleus of young players to put faith behind. The pressure is on our 5th year starting QB and first year coach to keep us at respectability and that's a major burden with this roster.

I don't see that without major injuries. We are going to have a relatively high pick though and that matters throughout each round so **** Tbum for trading away so many of next year's picks.

Football Outsiders can be useful for analyzing what happened. Football Outsiders is terrible as a tool to be predictive based on a two game sample size.

While I believe is possibly for this team to only win 3 or 4 games, it is also possible for them to win 7 or 8. I highly doubt we'll get the top pick. Even when we're bad we just never seem to be bad enough. We always win a couple of games that don't mean anything just to screw us out of a good player on draft day.

Ozzy rules!!
