Jake Grove, who started 10 games last season and is in a heated battle with Joe Berger to determine who starts at center for the Miami Dolphins, didn't play against the Cowboys Thursday night.

Grove suffered a shoulder injury in last Friday's loss to the Falcons, but he practiced all week. However, he didn't make the trip to Dallas.

Earlier this week Sparano said he'd decided who his starting center was, but admitted assuming it was whoever started against the Cowboys (Berger) wouldn't be accurate.

Berger, who started three of the Dolphins' exhibition games, started six games last season as an injury fill-in for Grove.

While Grove is resting his shoulder, it's also possible he might not be with the team after Saturday's cut down to 53 players.

He signed a five-year $29.5 million deal in 2009 to serve as the starter.

If he loses the battle to Berger, who signed a three-year, $2.775 million deal last March, it's possible the Dolphins could decide to purge his salary in a season where there is no salary cap.

Grove is slated to earn $2.66 million in base salary this season.

I think a trade if possible would be better. Our o-line depth is already thin enough. I'd like to keep as much of our depth as possible. Maybe trade him for a backup offensive tackle. I really don't like the idea of Andrew Gardner and Lydon Murtha as our 2 fallback options.

i don't know...i think they want to get out from that salary bad...i can see him getting the axe...no ones trading for damaged goods guys and not with that contract...

Retarded, they brought him in knowing he was injury prone and are pushing him out becuase he's injury prone. Smart FO .

The Dolphins will add depth to the line via waivers and cuts. There is even a chance Smiley, could be released and I am sure Miami would take him back. Berger is your starter at C and Procter played pretty good last night as the backup.

This front office shows it is bad in free agency. not keeping andre goodman and nate jones , signing smiley wilson and grove to big contracts. ernest wilford

No one is gonna want an injury prone back up center. h was a waste of money when we signed him.

well seeing as we play'd Cory Procter at center last night, Id say yeah, some moves, waiver wire moves. need to be made at the Center and Right Guard and Right Tackle.

All those players you mentioned have been horrible signings, but what about the great signings they have done. Here are some of the signings:

Chad Pennington
Randy Starks
Marshall
Dansby
Polite
Bess
Carpenter
Culver
Garner
Fasano

Those are just a few of the guys who have been greats acquisitions by this organization and extremely solid contributors.
