I don't think so, but I want to see what others think. Many people on here dislike the signing so a poll is a good way to gauge average fan opinion on the matter. I do think the contract was too much unless it has injury clauses all throughout it.

I don't think Grove will create holes in the middle. We play in a division that you have to scheme to get running lanes there.

I think he will be ok, a slight upgrade over Satele, but still not the dominant run blocker we need.

I think he will do well for us. Apparently he has only missed 12 or 13 games total from injury. He wasn't the starter in his first two years. Which is not horrific for 5 years. So, I am quite optimistic about him but, only time will tell.

first question is;

1) will he be able to play 8 games (Historically the asnwer to this question is definately not)

and then we can ask;

2) will he be the next ernest wilford

1) I don't think it really matters what the average fan thinks about the acquisition of Groves. everything is resolved in the game. we will know nothing until the first preseason is played. until then, it's all purely speculation and/or wishful thinking. what I do think is the BrainTrust makes very few errors in judgement & is always well prepared for any contingency. they have a plan & it will be revealed only as it unfolds. it's the Parcells way. And Groves is a part of the plan.

2) Wilford may yet redeem himself. no one knows what happened to him last season. personal problems abound in every dimension of life & no one escapes them. obviously, he had a bad year. the other end of it, is that he was a consistent play-maker when @ Jacksonville. don't be surprised to see him reestablish himself with the Dolphins as a play-maker in 09 & don't be too disappointed if he doesn't. either he will fish or cut bait: I say the jury is still out on this one.

By the way, I am not in favor of acquiring another WR in FreeAgency. the stable is set for 09, with the exception of drafting a WR prospect, it is over & done with for 2009.

jake has a mean streak, he kicked dan klecko in the nuts in college. So if a nose is kicking his butt as dirty as it is jake is going to make him pay for it, so the mean streak is there lets just hope it leads to smash mouth football.

I posted this in an earlier thread started by someone questioning why, if the FO was looking for a 'bigger' center did they signing a guy 5 years older and with an injury 'history' when he is barely heavier or taller than Satele. I think my response shows a good justification in the signing (big money and all) as well as why I think he marks an improvement over Satele (though I like Samson as a player, I do think he would be better suited as a backup in our system or starting in a zone blocking scheme elsewhere). So anyway, here's my response from before:

"I'm not positive about this but I think the FO is going on the old saying "plays bigger than the numbers/size indicates". Both Satele and Grove are identical in measurables (height, weight etc) but I think there are two factors in Groves favor they like: strong initial punch and physical strength. Grove may be equal in size to Satele, but the guy is strong as an ox (did bench reps of up to 490lbs I believe I read somewhere) and he probably gives a much greater surge up the middle than Satele (I'm no o-line expert and havn't examined the film as others have, but that's the general idea I'm gathering). Samson is an excellent athlete for Center, with potential to be a good pulling guard. However he does not have the same nasty demeanor, strength, or initial punch Grove has. Yes, I'll conceed I'm a bit concerned by Grove's list of injuries, but he's in his physical prime, has lots of untapped potential (bigtime prospect out of VT if I recall correctly), and he provides a more physical, nasty interior lineman than Satele. I like Samson a lot, but he does not fit well in the offensive scheme being run in Miami right now, and would benefit playing in a zone blocking scheme. When people talk about 'size' in their center, I believe it was CKParrothead that pointed out Samson is actually in the middle to higher end of centers in measureable size/weight. However, Samson does not PLAY as big as many other centers. I believe the FO wants someone built more like a bulldozer to pave the way of the interior offensive line. A lot of people are down on Grove because he played in Oakland and they notoriously had a bad line (which he was part of). However, I think put him on the same line as Long, Carey, Smiley, and Thomas and I think we'll see a far improved performance from him. Truly the only concern I have with him is the amount of money he received, but every FA period the money gets more and more inflated, whether the player 'deserves' it or not. Overall though I think this is a really solid signing."
