Jake Long had a rough first game to say the least. Speed rushers are giving him problems and a move to RT may be an eventual outcome in time. Worse things could happen IMO. That said, our current RT is a FA after this season and next year's draft is loaded with natural LT prospects again. I can see us letting Carey walk......never having made a pro bowl with Miami in his 5 seasons ('08 pending).

I realize that the season is in it's infancy and truthfully, it's way too early to evaluate Long at LT but Carey....as solid as he's been.....has never lived up to his draft status. This regime is going to want solid book ends for years to come hence the scenario I propose above.

Thoughts?

I could see it. I think we go LB with our first pick next year but if they decide to let Carey go I'm sure we'll get another OT, one thats better suited for LOT. Jake could probably be top 5 ROT in the game but will have a hard time being top 10 LOT in the NFL due to his feet

Jake is a rookie and played one NFL game .... give the guy a break and VC is a good RT still young but I could see him getting let go

If your post comes to fruitation then you'll probably have us drafting
mike oher...ot from miss. st.----stranger things have happened :d-day:

How do you draw that conclusion. Your statement is equally as untested as mine. All draft pundits saw Long as a 10yr starter and multiple probowler at RT but questioned his feet at LT. Hec, Charlie Andersen was beating him early in camp and Pace owned him in week 1. This draft is loaded at LT prospects and if Jake does not pick it up this season, I can see him moved to RT with is drafting a LT in rounds 1 or 2.

Lets see what Jake Long looks like after playing a 16 game season at left tackle. If he struggles all season then yes, maybe we need to move him to right tackle. Until then, just watch and see.

Have the guy play out the season first, he didn't too badly against the pass for his first game. He will settle in imo and be our LT for a very long time. Once this guy gets his hands on these rushers it's over. The only kind of guys that will give him problems are the Freeney types who are short and can get underneath him incredibly fast and every LT in the league has problems with those type of guys now and then. I would rather have him then Brickshaw Fergusen on the Jets who is the complete opposite of what Jake is.

We also need some time for this line to mesh together to evaluate it. Just because Carey hasn't made an actual pro bowl doesn't mean he hasn't played at or close to that level at times. He may or may not be re-signed but that doesn't mean he isn't a pretty solid RT.

You are way out there. Jake is our left tackle for years to come.
