With the Dolphins saying they feel they can build their OL through later draft picks and FA, I can only speculate that Jake Long is not the first pick. Unless it is a smoke screen.

Matt Ryan threw 19 interceptions in college in the ACC (which we all know is not as high of competition than other conferences). So in the pros I can only imagine the adjustments and learning curves he is going to go through (Ryan Leaf anyone)

Chris Long and Vernon Gholston were very impressive today at the combine. Vernon ran a 4.67 to Longs 4.75. Vernon put up 37 bench reps which matches Jake Long for the top. Chris Long did not lift due to a thumb injury but will lift at his pro day. And many people have said he can definitly play OLB in a 3-4 and he is smart and football ready. So Gholston or Long are the two top DE's and the decision I feel the Dolphins need to make.

Dan Marino threw more Tds than interceptions his senior year for Pittsburgh but he turned out pretty damn good. We all have see how well drafting later picks has helped out our oline.Yea that Toledo and Alabi guy have been great so lets pass on a stud oL to fill a position of lesser need.

jimmy johnsons philosophy with us was to take OL later in the draft too.

we have done that the past couple years as well.

Tell me again how well that has worked out for us.

I like the argument against ryan playing in weak competition. It's the same confernce that chris long played in. But you never hear the chris long lovers bringing this up.

I for the record still like jake long at #1. the only thing that would satisfy me as far as not taking him, would be taking one at 32. I am totally against waiting until rounds 3-7 to try to find a quality OL. that just simply hasn't been working for us.

I would not be shocked to see two O-linemen with 2 od our 3 picks in rounds 2-3. Really deep OL class after Jake Long and Ryan Clady (who will both be gone), Jeff Otah (who should be gone, but might fall due to a lackluster combine), Brandan Alberts (who won't go as high as he deserves cause he's a guard), Chilo Rachel (ditto), Chris Williams (could move way up draft boards), Anthony Collins (ditto), Gosder Cherilus, Carl Nicks, Sam Baker, Oniel Cousins, Heath Benedict, Tony Hills,Roy Schuening, Eric Young, Drew Radovich,Chad Rinehart, Mike McGlynn, John Greco,Kerry Brown,Mike Pollak, David Justice, and Kory Lichtensteiger all having good looking NFL futures.

You think Roy Scheuning will be there in round 4? Maybe even Barry Richardson? I think Jeremy Zuttah will play Guard at the next level.

I'm hoping for one of those guys to be there in round 4.

Richardson will probably go into a bit of a freefall due to a lackluster season unless he explodes at his pro day/ private workouts.

Schuening quite possibly could fall to the 4th since Rachel and Alberts are the clear cut top guards, Oniel Cousins will probably move to OG (making him 3), and Mike Pollack has looked good at G (probably making him 4). Guards and Centers will normally fall a lot farther than they should, unless the team picking has no other big need at the time (using Davin Josephs and Benn Grubbs as examples) Looking at the guys who pick before us going in to round 2, I don't see many teams in need for a guard which makes me start dreaming of Brendan Alberts (though Pitt worries me, unless Otah falls to them)

I wouldn't getting Nicks with 2B and Roy or Zuttah at round 4.

I agree with you...what team spends top money on ANY linebacker? You either take a QB..LT..or top of the line running back with the first pick.

I've been leaning towards J. Long lately. A possible great LT for years to come seems like the smartest pick. I wouldn't be unhappy with C. Long. I think he will be a great player, I just think a good LT is so important, especially for J. Beck or another rookie if it turns out like that. I'm pulling for Beck for the record. I'm starting to feel strongly that's it's going to be C. Long because you also can't forget the Al Grogh connection. He and Parcells are close and he said he thinks C. Long is the best player he's coached so i'm sure he's going to sell him up big time. That's an important point to consider.

Free agency will obviously depend on who we go after in the draft. If we land Flozell Adams, then it's anyone's guess I think. Gholsten maybe, although I still think Dorsey is in the picture. I would love to add both Alan Faneca & Flozell Adams via FA.

Some good O linemen have been picked at the bottom of round 1 or top of round 2. Shoot we got Satele pretty late. Marcus Mcneil (who I wanted over J. Allen) slipped into the 2nd round. And this draft may be deeper than those two drafts. And we have FA. Don't panic just yet.

OL Line-up

Hopefully it is a smoke screen. We all know that our o-line has been a porblem forever, and have a great opportunity to fix this. How would this look for an o-line?

LT-Jake Long (Draft)
LT-Alan Faneca (Sign as a FA)
C-Sampson Satele
RG-Rex Hadnot
RT-Vernon Carey

Personally, I think this would be a great group. Faneca and Long bring some attitude, which we sorely need.

That is a pro bowl caliber line there i think. Beck would have a much better chance to develop as a qb with a line like that giving him time to throw. And imagine our running game. I could see Ronnie Brown strolling through the huge gaps that left side would open.

Actually I rather have since we're speculating...this;

LT...J. Long

LG..F. Adams

C..Satele

RG...Faneca

RT...V. Carey

Seems to me that would be one of the best O-lines in the NFL.
