Jake Long did what he could. He tried to play an active role during Dolphins' team meetings, tried to offer encouragement to his teammates while they practiced without him.

But he missed it — not being out there, playing.

"Not being a part of it was difficult because I'm that type of leader that goes out there every single day and hates missing practices and games," said Long, who sat every one of the Dolphins' four preseason games and also sat out about half of the practices while rehabbing a knee injury.

Long's wait will end Monday when he assumes his duties as the Dolphins' starting left tackle. His absence during the preseason didn't help the cohesion of an offensive line that features a new starting center (rookie Mike Pouncey) and right tackle (Marc Colombo).

Already knew it but still good to hear.. I've missed watching him destroy people dearly.

That's great news and hopefully he can stay healthy for a full 16 games. We need Jake the destroyer.

Let's just cut him in two and have the other half play RT. Half a Jake Long is better than 20 Columbos.

I hope Long will be ready. As much as you want to believe it, I still remember the way Atlanta destroyed us at the 2009 opener. I also remember Long getting knocked on his butt multiple times that game. If anyone can be ready, it's Long, but I don't wanna take it for granted.

I DO know Finheaven as well as I thought I did... I knew we couldn't go a whole thread without somebody keeping the fanbase grounded about something positive...

This team needs Jake, I remember during his rookie game during the shoot out against the Patriots in Miami it was a close game in the third quarter when he went down. After he got injured and left the game the offense just couldn't get going, he is our MVP

pretty concerned about Jake for this game. He will probably be quite rusty and did not like how we played him hurt for no reason last year

Well, don't forget we also lost Camarillo that game, which was a much more serious affair. Also, with the game close and late, Ted Ginn choked and showed his true colors, both by running backwards on a crucial kick return, then by dropping multiple passes on a potential drive to get back in it.
