Philbin and defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle are demanding more consistency from Sean Smith and Vontae Davis, and Smith said he actually has told coaches "to make sure they stay on me to keep me going." He said coaches "are doing a great job" of doing that "day after day, each drill,” Smith said.

You are a professional Sean, You should be on yourself if you want that big pay day to come.

i always enjoy barry jacksons stuff.
i thought dansby was going to be an olb now with misi and guyton battleing for mlb. atleast i feel alot better with dansby at mike

Anyone who's managed people knows that different people respond to different motivations and different management styles. Smith obviously feels he improves more when people are demanding of him. Not exactly revolutionary stuff.

Its all about coaching. I think we finally have a very good staff who will get the most out of the players. I'm not predicting a Super Bowl, but I think we're going to have some fun this upcoming season.

In my gut I felt that dansby was going to play mlb...I think he can flourish at that spot.

Yeah I'm already seeing some inappropriate reactions to those quotes. I've seen some great players that say they respond better to hard coaching. Different players respond to different things. Some respond to hard coaching. Some go in the tank the more you get on them.

Oh no doubt about it. It is similar in at every level and in every profession. He certainly seems like the type of player who needs coaches to ride him and that is probably the reason for my response. i just hope it works and he plays well consistently. We all know he shows flashes.

It is one of the reasons i like the idea of Hard Knocks comming to MIA. Those cameras will push the players to play better just as much as the coaches will.

So he needs people to remind him of why he signed a contract with us?! Lame

once we get their best effort i am fine with that, judgement will come after

I think this is very telling of the previous coaching staff. We all knew Smith was a great athlete with high potential coming out of Utah. We also knew he was very raw at the cb position and was going to need to be "coached up". Why would our coaching staff not have been on him from rookie camp until they felt he reached his potential is beyond me. I honestly believe Smith was mishandled by our coaches. If you are going to draft a player who everyone knew on draft day was a project don't just treat him like every other player at his position. Treat him like a project and coach him up! This is one aspect of coaching I believe the Patriots and BB excel at. Hopefully we can finally see where our players are at talent wise now that we have coaches who know some players need more than "go over there and run drills". It's actually frustrating for me to here Smith say what he said, but not because I'm angry with Smith. Go Phins!

Am I late or did I just miss something, what position is smith switching up to, I must be safe to assume FS?

Actually, I totally understand what Sean is saying, and I hardly defend Smith much. Some people have the personality that dictates they eat up being coached up and pushed. Most people dont like being told what to do. Some people are just waiting for leadership to lead them into success. Its not really that he cant push himself, its that the leaders of the team arent leading.

My supervisor is a terrible leader. He waits for us to screw up instead of giving us the knowledge to change and become a better team.
