To me this is the biggest matchup of the game. Mario Williams has shown he is an elite pass rusher. And Jake has shown great ability so far and has gotten better each week. Keeping Penny upright is important (DUH) but keeping Mario away not allowing him to collapse the pocket is just as important. I think Jake will be a great game and hold down Williams. it wont be easy but be sure this week in practice he will be getting a crash course in Mario

Tale of the Tape
Jake Long
6'-7"
315lbs
37 reps at 225
27.5" vertical
#1 overall pick
Mario Williams
6'-7"
291lbs
18.5 career sacks
#1 overall pick

i think our coaching staff will know better than to put Long on Williams one-on-one all the time. i guess, Long will get some help early on and depending how things go, we'll see some more one-on-ones.

HUGE test for Jake.

Of note in the matchup is that this will be only the second game for the Dolphins O-Line against a 4-3 front this year. The other matchup was against Arizona, and their DE's are no where near as effective as pass rushers as Super Mario. It will be a great mathcup to watch

Seeing how these players play predominately on opposite sides of each other, Jake Long at LT and Mario Williams at RDE, this is not the biggest matchup of the week 6. Mario Williams will be matched up most of the day against Vernon Carey, who gave up Mario's first career sack in 2006.

I know their depth chart has Williams playing over Long but if you watch the games, Mario is usually on the left side of the defense although he does play both sides very well.

Uh, they WILL be matched up against each other (Long vs. Mario).
The LT goes head-to-head with the RDE.

:err:

i'm not so sure? if you were the texans, would you put Williams up against Long or carey? i'm sure i'd test the rookie

Sure you test the rookie but Mario gets most of his sacks from the left side of the defense.

i thought Williams plays LDE lining up against the RT, not RDE?

Forget it.. just checked the depth chart

i cant wait for this matchup..hmm where all r those people that said it was a mistake for the texans to take williams over bush....im talking about texans fans etc media i always thought bush was a waste he is more a special team player and wr then pure rb..and now u r seeing it come to truth like last night...williams is a beast i hope jake is up for the challenge

Don't forget the interior, the Texans have spent some high picks on DT's.

Interesting to see in Smiley and company are up to the challenge.

Bush has always reminded me of a more athletic Eric Metcalf.
