now i think veron carey is alot better on the right side (had a real good year on the left last year) but is we deside to get an animal of a man in jake long (still think we take Chris long instead) do you belive jake can be a real franchise LT what do you guys think

me i would not care if we took any of these three

Chris Long a great RE in a 3-4

Vernon Gholston who can be a great OLB in a 3-4

Jake Long who is the kind of player Bill loves

Matt Ryan is the most over rated Qb i have ever heard of
why anyone think this guy is a Franchise Qb is beyond me this is the only guy i would not like for us 2 draft

Glenn Dorsey I would love to see in a dolphins uni but there is no way now that we got ferguson and starks dont think there is any way bill brings him 2 miami

theres way too many people already in MIA to bring in Chris Long...go to miamidolphins.com/team/roster,and you'll see we have nearly 20 people in our front 7
Jake Long is our pick,we only have 1 legit Tackle on roster, and that is only Vernon Carey...

Chris Long currently weighs 267 pounds. There is no way he is a 3-4 end like that. He and Gholston are clearly both linebackers in that scheme.

I get a bit leery of Jake Long when I hear things like "He's not as good as Robert Gallery or Joe Thomas was when they were coming out of college". If that's the case then he certainly is NOT worth the #1 overall pick!!!!

chris played at Virgina where they run something like a 3-4 and he played RE

I know, but that's college and everyone is smaller. But Long currently weighs below 270, and 3-4 ends are practically ALWAYS about 300 pounds or more. Long CANNOT play end in the 3-4 at his current weight, and if a guy has to gain 30-40 pounds to play the position you want him to, I'd rather not use a No. 1 pick on the guy. If we take him, it will likely be for OLB.

People don't mean he's not as good as Gallery NOW. They mean he's not as good a prospect coming into the draft as Gallery was. Gallery and Thomas were both elite prospects. Long probably is a notch below. Obviously, everyone would agree they THINK he'll turn out better than Gallery since Gallery is a bust.

who is that the guy from the raiders

Chris Long measured 6'3" 272 at the scouting combine. Maybe he can lose about 10-15 pounds and be moved to OLB? He may be an elite OLB at 255 pounds.

This is what Google is for. It's a much quicker way to get an answer to this question that posting on a forum.

He doesn't need to lose any weight to be an OLB in the 3-4. He can be 250, 260, 270, doesn't matter.

Vernon would be a pro bowler at RT

A comment born out of bias. Carey is a decent NFL player at best. He's a mediocre left tackle and solid right tackle. The end, case closed. Hopefully, he'll be replaced on the left side soon and all together within a few years. He'll never live up to his draft slot, just like Jason Allen.

No I def think Carey would be a great RT, and I still think Jason Allen can be a great player. You try learing 2 diffrent positions. He played pretty well when he started this past year

Yea i agree with ya ! Jason was really the only one makin tackles out there! I think it was a benefit for him to get some playing time. He should start this season and be decent. Lets just hope his pass coverage has improved :winkwink:

Well then you're definitely biased. I'm sorry, but I'm just being honest. I mean let's break it down: Carey has previously played right tackle as recently as 2006, and was decent but nowhere near Pro Bowl caliber. Carey played left tackle in 2007 and was downright horrible. Given the facts, the only logical conclusion one can come to after a statement like yours is that you're biased as a fan.

And I'll tell you this - if Carey EVER makes the Pro Bowl, I'll swim to Hawaii to see him play in it. The only exception to that is if he does it as a member of the Patriots, since he'd go to the Pro Bowl regardless of how he played.
