He produced 38 receiving yards and 5 catches, plus the 15 yard Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty, on only 12 routes.

The guy makes good things happen. Quicker Miami can up his usage, the better.

When he's on the field, Tannehill knows to target him. That's because the guy is always open. Getting their chemistry right together is critical. If they have that chemistry to where they're both seeing the same thing, then it could be an almost unstoppable connection so long as the OL is holding up.

He killed it on the kick return but I was pleasantly surprised at how productive he was in the receiving game. Made some nice grabs with that wet ball. We know his hands can be suspect even in dry conditions, but if he can become a sure catcher of the football he will be a major player in this receiving core.

I'm sure Butler got that call because of what Grant did(TD) and almost did(Dropped TD catch) to him the last time they met.

Butler is a pretty fast player having watched him in NE. However, I'm not surprise that Grant got passed him. He's simpler faster.

But, I didn't expect Kenny Stills to blow passed him as well.

Kenny Still really has some sneaky speed. The guy never looks like he's running THAT fast.

BTW, I think hes at about 18(iirc) TDs since he's been here and is quietly one of Miami's most successful acquisitions.

Finally, Patiently waiting for your clear/post route combination prediction between Grant and Wilson ala Hill/Albert. Although i don't think their was a package when they were on the field at the same time. Perhaps when Parker gets back in the lineup.

I noticed when it's game time he seems to come alive. He's a gamer!

You can tell in the way he carries himself, how DBs bail for their lives before the snap, and how decisively he catches the ball he knows he's a dangerous bad ass!!

Love it!

He’s obviously is as small of a target as you can find. This isn’t a huge target with a giant catch radius. 50/50 balls may not be his game. He has some dropsies.

But, I agree, he can be a weapon. I really think we are in the second inning of his ascent. I think we are just scratching the surface.

PS, he gets under the skin of opponents.

Won't be his only one.

I thought going into the season that we needed at least 6 hopefully 7 or 8 combined TD's out of this X-factor. It's not unreasonable to think he might do this 2 or 3 more times.

If ever a player needed an infusion of confidence early that could help propel our team through the season, it's this kid on this team.

I don't understand this "yards per route" stat and how it's relevant to production.

Grant (7 targets) seemed to have been on the field for specific packages and his snap count was much lower than Stills (5 targets). He is likely to get targeted more when they put him because maybe the play is designed to get him the ball in certain packages. His yards per route will be inflated but the actual production may not be anything impressive (which it was not).

Seems to me it would be more applicable if his YPR was high and he also played a larger % of the snaps. Stills had a 3.42 YPR (8th in the NFL) compared to Grant (9th in the NFL) at 3.17. Stills played 95% of the snaps (and more routes) so his YPR is going to take a hit. It's possible that he was running routes when the play was meant to go to Grant (who was in on 40% of the snaps).

Grant (29 snaps) had 5 receptions for 38 yards for a 7.6 yards per catch average. Stills (59 snaps) had 4 receptions for 106 yards for a whopping 26.5 yard average.

A get the "yards per target" stat a bit more as Kenny was at 21.2 and Grant was at 5.43.

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong....IDK

Jakeem Grant's game is similar to Tyreke Hill"s game, so his leaping ability improves his catch radius and his agility and speed create good separation.

Its just a matter of time before Grant and his insane change of direction agility becomes a majorly productive force. The kid has gamebreaking talent.

Here are his catches, to put the "yards per reception" in context. Note the down and distance, and the pickup:

2-6-MIA 27 (15:00) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass short right to 19-J.Grant ran ob at MIA 34 for 7 yards.

1-10-MIA 44 (14:01) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass short left to 19-J.Grant to TEN 48 for 8 yards (21-M.Butler). PENALTY on TEN-21-M.Butler, Unnecessary Roughness, 15 yards, enforced at TEN 48.

2-12-MIA 13 (7:16) 17-R.Tannehill pass short left to 19-J.Grant to MIA 26 for 13 yards (55-J.Brown, 24-K.Vaccaro).

1-10-TEN 35 (9:04) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass short left to 19-J.Grant to TEN 31 for 4 yards (26-L.Ryan).

(10:05) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass short right to 19-J.Grant to MIA 31 for 6 yards (25-A.Jackson).

His first three receptions were pretty clutch. That's three first downs, including on a 2nd and 12.

I might not be quite as bullish on Grant as Digital or CK, but I do think he is a legitimate NFL receiving talent with speed that is going to scare the crap out of opposing defensive coordinators if he continues to improve as a receiver.

I'm not trying to negate Grant's abilities. I fully expect his YPC (per catch) average to jump drastically after he breaks a few long ones. Just don't understand the value of the YPR (per route) stat when there are too many variables. Even more than the YPC.

Ah okay.

I guess I would think the interesting thing about a high yards per route is... it means he's getting open?

Keep forcing him the rock in the easiest situations you can design and the TD's are inevitable.

I really like to see reception totals distributed evenly like this:

4 - Stills
5 - Grant
3 - Wilson
4 - Amendola
3 - Drake
1 - Gesicki

Great start, we have a ways to go. Gesicki and Parker are the next wrinkles. In fact, only one of the two really needs to make an impact in order for this thing to take off.

The potential is there for an offense to feature 6 different players having 3+ receptions a game.
