Jamar Chase Smackdown

Letting the CB get into your body = not what you want. Not efficient. You can argue that it's impressive that Chase is still able to win reps where he allows the CB to do this, but it's not a good example of Chase being good vs press.
Guys beat press different ways. I, like you i bet, prefer a davante adams type who has sweet feet to jitter around any CB. Devonta smith is definitely more that style.

Ive watched chase display he can beat press w/ a clean release numerous times. It’s in his tape plenty.

I guess I just disagree about him not being good vs press. A win is a win, and he doesn’t wear coverage. He has the athleticism and strength required, I think a lot of his mis fires off the line you see are just due to him being 19 and he needs to develop his technique.

Yeah, I am not seeing anyone being able to jam him in these videos. Hell if Burrow throws him a better pass in the one clip he takes it to the house. He had to reach back and haul it in but had his man beat pretty solid. I guess we will see soon enough, can't wait to hear or see some times for these guys.

I find it funny that guys are piling on Chase for "packing" on a whole 7 ibs. to his frame, like he is some overweight slob but yet Smith looks like a Kenyan marathon runner who can't even keep his listed weight on. Also the opt out when all of our major targets at 3 other than Smith opted out. So Smith is the pick because Sewell, Chase and Parsons opted out? OK, sorry but unfortunately this is the time we live in.

Hey I think Smith is a badass but if Waddle doesn't get hurt we are talking about him as much if not MORE than Smith as he was piling up more yards and the same amount of TD's on far fewer catches. He definitely is not winning a Heisman if Waddle stays healthy. If the one thing we have to worry about is separation when comparing these two when one is stronger, younger, higher ceiling and just as fast then we have a QB problem.

One more thing in their last 7 games together here are their stats:
Waddle - 33-924-9
Smith - 50-713-7

I don't know how Smith is better than Chase in a lot of peoples minds but was being outplayed by his own teammate. Now you can fire away.

I think some people are just more comfortable with Smitty because they’ve seen him do it consistently - and for more than one season.

Furthermore, your angle makes no sense when Chase himself was outplayed by his teammate in about half of the last 15 games they played together.

Smitty was winning national championships in walk-off fashion while Waddle was still in high school. But what people don’t remember is the 26 yard slant he took to the house after breaking a tackle against Miss. St. about 2 months prior that kept his team in position to play for a national championship.

Alabama was struggling on the road in Starkville with a putrid Jalen Hurts. Smitty saved the day again. They were tied at 24-24 with less than 30 seconds left in the game when Smitty came through. That’s what he does.

Thing about Smitty is that the more that was asked of him, the more he delivered. When Waddle went down he was asked to carry his team to a national championship. They couldn’t afford for him to get hurt too. He had to deliver.

He did. Like he always does.

By the way - Trevon Diggs was awful. It wasn’t just Chase that made him look clueless in that game. It was Clyde Edwards-Helaire too. They targeted him constantly in the running game and passing game. Probably the worst game I’ve ever seen an Alabama DB have. Couldn’t cover and couldn’t tackle.

The only other one that even compares was the game Savion Smith had against Clemson in the national championship game.

Smith is a STUD, but he does not break Chases record for TD's and yardage if Waddle stays healthy. Not sure you can say Jefferson was better than Chase when Chase clearly outclassed him stat wise most scouts saw him as the clear best WR not only on his team but the entire country. Chase put up those insane numbers with Jefferson, Moss and Marshall siphoning his targets. Smith did it with Meachie the only other threat while putting up his for half season.

But as far as everything you have said about Smith I agree, he has played his part as the complimentary guy and he has carried a team. He has caught passes from THREE different QB's, played under what 3 different OC's? His sample size is much larger without a doubt, seems like the ultimate teammate and is humble. If we could snag him a few spots later say at 6-8 and still get a pick or two I would be more than happy because I think if nothing else the kid has a rapport with Tua and he would give his all. What else could you ask for?

It is funny as even when he was in the background he always flashed, talk was about Jeudy and Ruggs (never got that) but this kid was still putting up numbers. He deserves everything coming to him at the next level.

I haven’t talked to any scouts that saw Chase as the best receiver on his team or in the entire country. Nor did Chase clearly outclass Jefferson stat wise. The stats were pretty close. Jefferson just had more receptions because he’s the one they went to when they needed to get a 1st down. His hands were more reliable.

Chase isn’t better than Jefferson in my opinion. They’re both very good receivers.

Whether or not Smitty broke Chase’s touchdown and yardage record doesn’t really matter. It’s just a talking point. Neither one can take any of those yards or touchdowns with em to the NFL. The records aren’t what makes Smitty what he is. He’s the same receiver with the same skillset with or without breaking Chase’s records.

He can do special things a lot better and a lot more consistently than everybody else. That’s why he has all those records and a Heisman Trophy.

He even took over a lot of the routes out of the backfield that were designed for Waddle. He has the speed to outrun defenders and angles that are required of those routes. Smitty had the skillset to play all of Alabama’s receiver spots.

Including taking over for Waddle as punt returner and proving to be just as dangerous.

I doubt Chase is returning any punts.

Good god, maybe if that corner had any ball skills that could’ve been a little different

embarrassing
That corner was a first round pick for Atlanta last year. He is also the best corner on their team. You start to understand why the Falcon defense is so bad. They have no pass rushers and no pass coverage. Lol

I like the idea of bolstering our lines. OL Sewell first, Meinerz/Humphrey in the 3rd.
DL snag Rousseau @ 18th (if there) or Phillips early second. Maybe get a great value pick in the 4th like Rashad Weaver.

I'm not that impressed with any of the supposed top three receivers to justify a top ten pick. I like Rondale Moore and Rashad Bateman, if we get lucky enough for Bateman to fall into the second round.

I'm a fan of Najee Harris, but not at 18th. I think one of Travis Etienne or Jhavonte Williams will still be on the board by pick #50. Michael Carter, who's no slouch, would be a solid third round pick if we don't get an RB in the second.

You would think that if the Super bowl was a college game then guys like Kelce, and Hill would have had 300 yards a pop right? Well defense is what wins games, not one to one match ups. Offenses attempt to force one to one match ups because that is the smart thing to do right? Receivers will often beat another corner one to one every now and thens, but newsflash... a receiver alone cannot beat the rest of the defense, or the Safety helping underneath. A smart defense can anticipate the mismatch, and cleverly disguise the coverages. Hell you won't see the same college plays down the middle because the linebackers in the nfl can play better coverage, and are much faster. So at the end of the day it doesn't matter if a receiver beats his corner man to man unless he can beat the rest of the coverage.

Now it would be a better argument to say, well if this guy is man to man with no safety's to help him then this is the guy I want vs thinking that Smith can get open every play against the rest of the defense because of his god given abilities.

Who cares about returning punts? That **** is worthless when it comes to a player eval unless you are drafting them specifically for that purpose (which is dime a dozen and should never be drafted early to begin with)

We have an all pro returner aka Grant. Many people in here forget that. He also helps out in the slot but literally stalls after a catch if he happens to catch it lol.

The best punt returner in the NFL at the moment went undrafted in 2019 and played college ball at Bemidji state. Should not factor into these guys first round grades

I won’t be surprised if Jaylen Waddle has the best career out of the 3 over the next 10 years. He’s talented. However I’ll be completely shocked if he gets drafted top 15 at 5’10 180 pounds. Guys of that mold just have not panned out as top draft picks. I don’t think the NFL falls for it again this year.

there ain’t no value in it. And yeah miamis learning that lesson right now. He should be paid dirt money as a return specialist only really.

igbo returned kick offs in college there’s absolutely no added value or justification for that first round pick in his returns game. It’s all in the corner play. If he blows at corner it don’t matter what he does as a returner (which with the rules now kickoffs barely ever get returned anyways)

i think there’s a possibility he’s there at 18
