One of the latest rumors on PFT is that JaMarcus Russell has shown up at the combine at an overweight 265 lbs.

This could cause him to slide a bit (at least, supposedly, to Cleveland) or make Brady Quinn a Raider. Somehow I still think Al Davis prefers his unbelievable arm, but it's something to keep an eye on.

Interesting.

I thought his playing weight was right around that range.

I agree with UF FinKat, Calvin Johnson just seems like a perfect pick for Oakland considering Al Davis' tendencies.

And I too thought Russell played around 265 anyways.

I have said it a few times before. I think the Raiders pull the trigger on CJ.

Here's what I posted in another thread:

1. Raiders: Russell seems to be the consensus for overall number one, but could this be a smokescreen for a trade with a team REALLY needing a bigtime QB? Lane Kiffin's specialty was with WRs/TEs when he was with USC. He had great success with this group, including a couple coming out this draft with potential first round talent in Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett. I would not be surprised if Calvin Johnson is HIGH on Oakland's radar right now. Of course, Oakland is drafting number one overall for a reason, so anything short of a punter being drafted should not surprise anyone.

As far as Russell, his knock was that his head may not be in football. He has poor work ethics but is still a gamer (Similar specs on Roethlisberger when he came out of college). From what I have read, his playing weight is around 260 anyway, so this "weight gain" should not be a big deal to anyone considering drafting him. Hell, my girlfriend gains five pounds if we do a Krispy Kreme drive-by! Nonetheless, his knock is his poor work ethics, and that may be an issue in the NFL. Russell will still get paid, regardless.....

Raiders trade Moss to the Jags for Leftwitch, Raiders draft Calvin Johnson, Browns draft Russell.

An overweight 265 lbs? Did these guys not watch him play this year? If he's 265, he probably dieted after the season ended and lost a good 10 lbs.

JaMarcus at least showed up.

That is his playing weight. Someone doesn't know what they are talking about.
It might be his "normal weight" but he could still be a flabby 265 compared to his in shape playing 265 and if he looks like a tub of goo thats not great for his draft status.
