This is a guy that seems to fit the profile of a defensive player the Miami brass would like...

I watched his game against Michigan and a few others and he can flat out make plays...

Extremely productive, experienced, intelligent, top notch work ethic kind of player....but he looks he may be more of a 4-3 DE at 6-3, 262....excellent run defender and thumping tackler....motor is always running...

I'd really be interested in seeing this guy perform in linebacker drills and see if he could project as a potential mid-late round steal as a strongside OLB in a 3-4...

Academic All-Big Ten every year....his 19.5 TFL's last year were the most for Indiana since Adewale Ogunleye tallied 21 in 1997....also recorded 6.5 sacks and 5 forced fumbles...

Followed that up this year with 15.5 TFL's....10.5 sacks...and 2 forced fumbles...

Benefits a little bit from playing opposite Greg Middleton but Kirlew looks like the better player to me....might be a guy worth paying attention to in post season workouts...
 
I remember Boomer mentioning him last year along with Corey Wootton.

Definitely will be keeping a watch on him during all the workouts coming up this off-season.

How do you guys feel about him? Do you view him as more of strictly 4-3 DE prospect...limited upside type of player?

His production and experience certainly can't be ignored IMO....but I've also never really seen him tested against an elite tackle very much...
 
I can't speak much to him because I haven't watched him much yet. He's high up on the list of guys to get to for me because of Simon's opinion of him, and now even more because you've watched him a lot and like him (yes I respect your opinions on players). But Simon believes he could be what we're looking for at the strong side spot. I'll see if I can dig up what he said.

Interesting....me and this Boomer guy seem to see eye to eye on a lot of these guys for some reason.....he obviously knows what he's talking about....:lol:

Seriously though...I'd advise you to check this guy out....I think you'll like him..

He reminds me a lot of one of my favorite prospects in this draft...Brandon Graham.....except Kirlew is just a little taller...

In fact...I was re-watching the game to see Graham again and I finally had to start paying attention to this guy that was wreaking havoc and forcing fumbles all over the place for Indiana...

So I got a hold of some footage against Virginia....Indiana got blown out of the stadium but it was the same thing from Kirlew....I counted 6 tackles...2 TFL's and a sack...

I'm going to watch his game against Iowa soon to see how he did against two pretty good tackles in Bulaga and Kyle Callaway....

I would recommend checking him out and maybe even try to get some cut ups of him up if you want.....this kid looks damn good to me....just not sure if he's a conversion guy or not...
 
Don't mistake Reiff for Callaway. Already made that mistake once, wouldn't like to see others repeat it.
 
And yeah I'll be doing cutups of Kirlew and Worilds, both guys that Simon likes. I've seen a lot of Worilds myself and I really like him too, though I wonder if he's really strong side or if all of the guys we keep conveniently chalking to the weak side just aren't strong enough to play in the NFL period.
 
what's the prognosis on worilds shoulder long term??? i know he had major surgery a year or so ago
 
i'm not saying that it's the case about worlids but va tech puts out an awful lot of guys who are what i call "system players"

guys who fit the system but who's game doesn't translate all that well to the pros...

beamer gets everything out of his talent...imo
 
I like Worilds too...but hoops has a point...Bud Foster is one of the top 2 or 3 DC's in the country IMO and deserves a head coaching job....he's always been able to get the most out of his defensive talent at VT and make them look like total studs....only to fizzle out in the pros (Moore, Adibi, Tapp, Vince Hall, etc...the list is long actually)...

Worilds plays a lot like Kindle IMO...uses athletic ability and upper body strength more than technique at times....I actually think they're very similar players in a lot of ways....Worilds sees his share of double teams and still is around the team lead in sacks....

You have to show the cut up of Worilds destroying Matt Pipho...:lol:
 
Forget Matt Pipho. You should see what he did to Drew Davis. You know that clip on our Sergio Kindle video of Sergio tossing Texas Tech's right tackle to the ground? Worilds did that twice to Bama's RT Drew Davis. Davis isn't the best pass protector, but damn.
 
I am an Indiana fan and saw quite a bit of Kirlew, of course. I believe he grew up in central Florida and Indiana was able to get him since he was more of a second tier high school recruit.

As noted, he is well-rounded and academically inclined. He is a dynamic and articulate kid. He is interested in acting and he even made a film I believe.

On the field, he was initially overshadowed by his classmate and bookend DE, Greg Middleton, #92 on film, more of a classic 4-3 end out of Indianapolis. Middleton generated a shocking number of sacks while they were sophs.

But whereas Middleton hit a plateau, Kirlew steadily improved. Middleton is not nearly as bright as Kirlew. Middleton, while making excuses about double teams, apparently was enjoying his press clippings so much that his production tailed off.

Kirlew is smart and has a good motor. He can rush the passer but also play the run. The concern I have is that I would like to see his Combine performance. Watching him play a great deal, I just don't sense tremendous explosion. I am just not sure how he will be in space as a strong side OLB. If he tests well, I am thinking of him as a 4th round type of pick. Admittedly, I am not sure where scouts are projecting him. That just a projection I throw out there having seen him play but not knowing how he will test out. He seems like an impressive kid, though.
