Rotoworld is reporting that the Jags may cut Jared Odrick, who plays DE for them. He is 29 and is interested in playing DT. Any interest?

Personally, I didn't watch too many Jags games so I can't speak for how his play is lately, but the old Odrick would be an improvement over the old Earl Mitchell, so I'd welcome him back with open arms if healthy and if he still has a little gas in the tank.

Working with Suh and Wake I bet his pass rushing skills return, and he has always been better against the run than the poor play we fielded last year.

Thoughts?

I'd sign him a heartbeat if medical checks off. Jarred Odrick claim to fame was never as a pass rusher. Hes lateral ability to shift and not give up ground on run plays is why Parcells and company valued him highly as a 3-4 end. Occupy the OT and let the OLB get the glory. The same ability at the interior DT would allow Suh to do his damage.

Using Odrick as a in/out DT/NT/DE is a good value signing.

He played DT for us. Didn't know he was a DE

I brought this up as a proponent of the idea a few weeks back. He would be a 4-3 base end and kick inside in sub OR play DT in base as part of a rotation. I'm all for it.

He played DE and I believe would just shift inside at times.

But I would definitely take him back, run stuffing base de possibly and / or rotational DT / de. He can't cost too much, probably about what Mitchell makes

Well with a different regime in charge he might welcome a return

I like the guy, not sure he played that well in jax, but then, did anyone?

question i would have is why are jags cutting him?

That's just blowing up one issue that happened early on in the year and he had thought torn his tricep in a previous drive coupled with a few penalties.

Overall, a main reason they are departing with Odrick is b/c he missed some decent time due to injury and only played in 6 games last year.

makes too much money for his role which is unless hes' facing 2015 edge tackle play from Miami he can't sniff the qb as a 43 de

I'm with eesti though this is a smart signing and would free Miami up to look for true edge pass rush win talent in the draft

thinking his market would be in the 2 and $12 mil range

doubt it would get much higher than that...id even take him on a one year fully guaranteed deal to buy us time provided he doesn't look for $8 mil or something fully guaranteed

I'd sign him.. ^^^ That outburst is something else!!!

If I remember correctly, he was drafted as a 3-4 DE under Mike Nolan and played there until 2012 when the keystone cops took over. He then played Base DE in the 4-3 and kicked inside to DT on passing downs. He only did that for one year and then became part of the 3 man rotation at DT with Starks and Soliai after Tony McDaniel left and Wake took over as the full time DE. Soliai being the base NT with Odrick coming in mainly on passing downs with Starks.

Yeah as he would be a good pickup. But at what cost?!

based on what i'm hearing as to why then yea i'd love him to be part of our rotation inside.....hopefully it's not too small of a splash signing for ol t bum
