Seems like the organization is pretty high on Jason Allen. Im listening to the Eric Green interview on WQAM all he was today is he was gonna compete. He did say that the RCB spot is open in Miami and he would compete for the job. That is more like it. All you guys worried this guy was gonna start for us can now chill.

For now. We will draft a CB early. It doesnt take a genius to figure out that the three NFL-caliber players on the CB depth chart will be competing for the two starting spots.

Omar Kelly seems to think that Butler is too small for the Trifecta and would not be the pick in R1.

Sean Smith is my guy. The Trifecta have met with him several times and he seems to be this year's Henne. Bowles was seen at his Pro Day and they are said to really like the kid.

yeah of course they say jason allen will battle green...if they want a CB in round 1, they can't say jason allen is your dimeback, you'll be ****ed come draft day lol

The Jason Allen experiment makes me a bit hesitant to draft Sean Smith. Is he a CB or a FS? I'm all for drafting a bigger CB, but is 6'3 too big?

That said, if he is the pick, I'll be pretty comfortable that the FO believes he can play CB in the NFL. Most analysts thought Jake would be a RT, but the FO did their homework, they stuck him at LT from day one, and he made the Pro Bowl. Point is, I trust them.

I have been all about having the Fins draft a CB in the 1st round. But if we are this serious about Sean Smith, then this will free us up to really pick up the best available player at #25, I am sure 1 or 2 players unexpectedly will be available that werent supposed to be there.

This gives us options and I love options. My Only fear is we are betting that S Smith will be available with our 2nd pick in the draft. If he is taken prior, we are stuck taking someone we did not want as much or a projection type CB.

Keep in mind Smith has never played FS. He is a WR convert that has played press man corner a whole lot more than most of these corners coming out.

CK, who would you compare him to in the NFL? Is he fluid enough to stick with NFL WRs? Can he change directions? I'm just curious to hear your assessment of the guy.

They should be competing for a roster spot, but unfortunately they are competing for starting CB.

I like smith, he was the only one I saw shut down Julio Jones of Alabama pretty good in the Sugar Bowl.. He's probly more NFL ready than a lot of corner's I've seen in this draft..

02/10/2009 - Utah Pro day: The University of Utah pro day was held today in Salt Lake City, with 21 teams and 13 players in attendance. Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ron Meeks was among the attendees, as were defensive backfield coaches from the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions and a defensive line coach from the Seattle Seahawks. The pro day was held indoors on FieldTurf. Smith measured in at 6-3?? and 209 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 and 4.49 seconds. He had a 32-inch vertical and a 9-5 broad jump. He participated in position drills but did not do any shuttle drills, save for the 60-yard shuttle. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com Overview

Smith joined teammate Paul Kruger in riding the wave of the Utes' big win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl into the NFL draft. Smith's size and quick feet are very intriguing, especially given his production as a starter the past two seasons, when he totaled nine interceptions and 15 pass breakups. A first-team All-Mountain West pick in 2008, Smith presents a nice size/speed combination to match up against bigger receivers. He actually began his career at wide receiver, playing there as a redshirt freshman (although he had seven rushes and only one catch) until the last two games of the season.
Analysis

Positives: Good height and great length for a boundary corner. … Very quick feet for his size. … Runs well with taller receivers down the sideline, but also lines up in the slot. … Former receiver has great ball skills and the vertical to go up and get the ball. … Able to locate and high-point in coverage. … Elusive runner with some vision to flip field position after the interception. … Forces fumbles by using his length to get a hand on the ball. … Has the size and closing speed to be an effective blitzer. … Very quick to support the run or attack quick screens and passes in the flat. … Reacts quickly on plays in front of him and finds the ball well in the air.

Negatives: Might be seen as a corner/safety "tweener." … Stiff in the upper body. … Does not play with the physicality scouts would like given his size. … Is slow to adjust when backpedaling if a receiver cuts his route short or goes to the skinny post. … Catch-and-drag tackler whose height is a disadvantage when trying to bring down ballcarriers with a low center of gravity. … Inconsistent using his hands at the line of scrimmage. … Gets stuck on blocks. … Takes poor angles to make tackles in space or when attacking a screen. … Just a little more than two years of experience on defense. … ****y and talks trash.

here's one about pat surtain during his draft.
This may be one of the big sleepers in this draft at DC. Although he is not dazzling in his overall numbers (he ran right around the 5.0 level at the Indy combine) he is a very efficient player with very little wasted motion. He has outstanding quickness and is very smooth in his turns and hips. Because of his ability to make the transition in coverage, he plays more like a 4.4 guy. He can really turn and run with a WR and he has excellent ball skills and seems to have a great feel for routes and coverages. He has good mirrorbility on his m/m responsibilities, and he will break well and close on the ball. He is an adequate open field tackler, but not a real physical guy, but he is good enough to get the job done. There are certain guys, like Surtain, that play with good functional speed. The player you see on film is a little quicker and more productive than the one that worked out at the combine, although his numbers were certainly not bad. Don’t be surprised if he is drafted much higher than many people have him on their boards.

I know everything's posible and I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but I can't see Bill taking a corner in round 1 or a WR for that matter....I do see him taking a corner and a WR in round 2.......at 25 I think he'll go LB.....just my opinion.

Ozzy rules!!
