Jason Allen - Close to not being with the 'Fins this year?

While listening to sports talk radio here in Knoxville, TN, one host (Jimmy Hyams who is still close to tons of former UT players) said that he had been told by sources close to Allen that if [former Dolphin head coach] had not left for 'Bama, that Allen would not be part of the Dolphins this year (i.e. he would have been traded or released).

He said that was it was not Allen's skills on the field or lack of football intelligence or any problem in the locker room - it was the fact that his rookie holdout pissed [former Dolphin head coach] off so much that he stayed in [former Dolphin head coach]'s doghouse the entire year and that [former Dolphin head coach] was determined to make an example of him for future draft picks.

Been vindictive much, [former Dolphin head coach]?

That is just nuts. I would hope even Saban wasn't that crazy.

that would show the rookie alright.... "so I'm not going to get paid 12 millions by the fins... I'll get paid 12 million by another team and not have to play for a huge a-hole"

I think the player would win that one.

i think thats nonsense.....oh and one question....i guess you didnt get the memo that that coach you mentioned name is forbidden on this website?

but why would saban do that to him

I think it was simply a power thing to him - Saban (as head of personnel) gave him an initial contract offer to which Allen said 'No Thanks' to. Players don't do that to college coaches and Saban apparently saw it as a weakening of his power/'empire'. If he made an example out of Allen, then who ever he drafted in the upcoming years would think long and hard about dickering about their rookie contract...

It did seem odd that even with the injuries and the poor play of other players in the secondary that Allen didn't get a sniff of playing time. Especially given he really didn't look that bad and I thought he did a very good job at defending the pass on a number of plays. He did get burnt once I think for a td though :j.

I apologize to the mods if this is true. I thought this was interesting information that showed some insight into Allen's lack of production in his rookie year. I have removed all references to him in the original post and replaced his name with [former Dolphin head coach].

saban never gave new guys or younger guys a shot

he was a horrible coach i hope he goes through the worst at alabama

It's ridiculous to think he would blow up a first rounder, after one year of limited playing time, just because he held out on his rookie deal.
