Salguero just put up his latest blog entry regarding questions he asked Pasqualoni about Jason Allen.
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2008/09/pasqualoni-give.html

I get the feeling that we have once again switched Allen to CB and the coaching staff is hiding the switch. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Allen at CB sometime after the bye week.

As I see it, this could be a positive. Basically, they just give him a position that uses his athleticism and doesn't require him to make the coverage calls and adjustments required of a safety.

Just a guess but I don't think he has the football intelligence required to play safety at the NFL level. I think he should sink or swim at CB.

i don't get all the drama with this guy. he plays well at FS when given the opportunity - what is the deal?

Jason Allen is too heavy to be a corner. All of our corners weigh 190 pounds. Jason Allen weighs 205+.

Plus the Free Safety, where he was at, is generally a good place for a non-run-tackling overweight corner, like him; note: Renaldo Hill is only like 190 pounds.

If he could run-tackle, he has the perfect size to play Strong Safety, however, he'd still be a backup to Yeremiah Bell.

Basically, Jason Allen is too big to have to consistantly cover a Ted Ginn. He'll get tired and give up the big play. At safety you don't have to run as much, since you get a 10-yard head-start on every play (you line up 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage).

Wait wait wait wait... The guy is too dumb to learn the safety position so they moved him to CB. Then he plain sucked at that so they moved him back to Safety. Now they think he'll succeed at CB?
I'm starting to worry about this coaching staff.

Same here. I thought he was coming into his own at safety. The way I saw him play and all the good press during training camp has thrown me a curve. I just dont get it. We are obviously missing something.

In fairness to this staff (With whom my displeasure is on record) this has been the story of JA's career over the last three administrations.

I don't know what it is, but, there is somthing there that's just not right.

Who cares what the guy weighs? All I care about is his ability to run with a receiver, change direction quickly, and display some ball skills.

I think Allen tackles pretty well, and he has some speed. I just don't know if he has the change of direction skills necessary. If we played a Cover 2 base, I would have no doubts. In our scheme, we'll just have to wait and see what we have.

This guy's early career has been eerily similar to Nnamdi Asomugha's. FS then CB then FS again and then CB again. And the fans in Oakland screamed "bust" when they saw that he couldn't get a starting position, even though he wasn't consistantly playing a position. And us Dolphins fans are claiming Allen a bust too. We've all been screaming for the past week for a CB who's about 6'1" and over 200 pounds with 4.40 speed. Jason Allen CAN be that guy! On paper he IS that guy. I say let him start at CB for the rest of this season because I KNOW he is not worse than Andre Goodman. He's an athletic freak and has made plays every time he gets the chance. I hope this is the real reason he isn't starting at FS.

I wouldn't draft a corner who weighed over 200 pounds. Not even in the seventh round. Nnamdi is a big guy, however, he is the exception to the rule. It's an absolute disqualifier in my book. I'd much rather go lighter and grab a 170 pound corner vs. a 200 pounder.

Parcells sure doesn't mind big CBs. Anthony Henry is 6'1 208 pounds and was starting for Parcells for a while. Why CAN'T Allen be part of that exception? If he can run fast enough and is strong enough why not? All I know is we need to try Jason Allen out before we toss him to the side of the road.

I've seen this discussion before somewhere...984, where are you?!

i seriously question with each of your posts whether you truely watch football or your just joking with every one of your posts.

I'm with everyone who doesn't get it with this guy. Everytime he's in the game he seems to be around the ball, has a few ints. Breaks up passes. But they put in Crocker, he blows, they then go to Hill instead. Wow, I know I'm not a coach but this kid plays well in games all the time. Am I missing something???

If they do move him to corner, fine with me. He ran a 4.3 and is big. Who ever said a corner had to be 190 lbs. That was the old NFL where the receivers were small other than Jerry and John. Now all the receivers are big, being small is minority. Put him at CB and let him use his abilities against the big receivers of the NFL. Use Will for the quick receivers.
