What are peoples thoughts on Jason Avant?

Honestly, i havent seen a whole lot of him so i cant really say whether this is a good or bad move. Im just throwing it out there because i saw his name mentioned as a free agent for next year and hes an old college teammate of Henne's. His numbers in his career really arent very good but the Eagles always have a bunch of receivers so receptions get spread out. Ive seen him make some nice plays on some of their highlights but whats the deal with him? Is he good? Hes not the number one were looking for is he?

I know hes not a Miles Austin, Brandon Marshall or Vincent Jackson but anticipating those guys get resigned and wont be available and we most likely wont draft one in the top rounds of the draft is a guy like Jason Avant a realistic option? If not him what other free agents do you think are realistic options if the top guys arent available and we dont draft one?

He is another #2 or #3 which we have enough of. I wouldn't expect them to pursuit him but given the history of the front office in free agency, nothing will surprise me.

yea i never really seen too much of him, i just saw his name on the list and knew he was an ex teammate of Henne, i was just curious if he was pretty good or not cuz the eagles have a few pretty good receivers who can make plays.

Of course i would love Brandon Marshall but...

There are to many WRs in the FA that could be the next big WR.

It's ridiculous for someone to sit here and say he's another #2/#3 WR when in fact we haven't seen him given the chance to be a #1 WR. The same for Malcolm Floyd.

"He may not be Marshall or Austin"

What exactly was Austin up until this season? A nobody.

I saw Avant at Eagles training camp at the beginning of the season and he's a freak. Looks exactly like T.O and no it's not just his number.

I'd give Anotonio Bryant, Malcolm Floyd, or Jason Avant a look to be our #1.

I am really starting to struggle with the mentality a roster made up of second third or fourth string players from other teams will result in a Superbowl for Miami.

 at all the people in this thread, who have never seen Avant play calling him just another #3. He'd be our best WR, that's what he'd be.

I'm sick of our team stocking up on also-rans like Ayodele, Gerbil Wilson, Fasano and any other second or third tier players. It's time we get top-tier talent on the damn team or we can forget about a Superbowl in the near future.

Hey!

I live in the NJ/PHILLY area so I've watched a little bit more of Avant than most of us here, but that said, I haven't seen A LOT of him. Anyway, I just told someone at the sports bar last week that I though Avant was better than any of our starting WR's. I'm not saying he's a number one, but I think we need to pick up more than just a #1 superstar... I think we need 2 new receivers and a tight end to really improve. I've seen enough of Avant to be happy picking him up as a FA as our #2... sorry guys buy I'm willing to say goodbye to Camarillo and Bess. I like these guys as players but they aren't really that good... should be 3 & 4 with Hartline being 2a to Avant. I said this somewhere else... sorry, but for those who think Bess can even carry Welker's jock... you're being a homer. Welker isn't just a product of Brady & Moss, he is a probowl receiver on his own merits. When Bess catches over 110 per year for 3 straight years with a QB like Henne then I'll eat my words.

Peace,
Bret
