he Dolphins hope defensive end Cameron Wake, 34 and coming off a ruptured Achilles’ tendon, will still be one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers. But he will no longer be a starter.Jason Jones, who started all 31 games in which he appeared for the Detroit Lions the past two seasons, will replace Wake as the starter in base defense and play a large chunk of first and second downs, defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said Tuesday.
Wake has started the past 54 regular-season games he has played for Miami.
“In our first- and second-down package, which is obviously more run and mixed play-action pass, Jason Jones will be the starting end along with Mario Williams,” Joseph said. “Cam will be used some on first and second down but mostly in pass-rush situations.”

Will be a little weird not seeing Wake starting, but it makes sense given his deficiencies vs. the run. Especially if we can get a lead and send Wake out there to wreak havoc.

Jason Jones seems like he is very underwhelming. Wake will probably see 50% of the snaps

Yeah but he's stout against the run and won't yield to blockers trying to push him out of the play. Miami has Mario and suh as solid penetrators. Jones doesn't need to be a penetrator. Just set the edge and don't lose containment.

Right move. Need to keep Wake fresh for the 3rd and 4th quarter. A relatively fresh Wake Vs a Tackle that has played every snap? Like those odds.

This was expected...Wake being used as a situational player and a pass rush specialist was the natural evolution. It is not like he won't get his opportunities.
