Philly just signed Peters to a 5 year $51M deal. Give or take, this should set the price for Monroe and Albert.

Peters is better than both, which might mean around $45M for 5 years but, with FA bidding, I could see it going to $55M. The guaranteed money was not listed yet.

After tearing his achilles twice?

Not sure about that. Also leaves their first round pick Lane Johnson at RT, I'm sure he is not happy about that.

The important part is that 19.55 million is guaranteed. Also technically it's a 4 yr deal for 41.3 million he was already owed close to 10 million this year. Let's go get Monroe or Albert.

Last year, there were a number of debates on paying Long or any LT a big contract, as they are not play makers. This year, it appears that very few have a problem with it. Is this an overreaction to the horrible play we got from LT, the available money or, something else that changed the opinion of most?

It's actually 4 yr 41.3 million but why would that set the standard??? He's an All-Pro and Monroe, Albert, or Collins aren't anywhere near that level. If anything, that's the ceiling for negotiations to start. Monroe will settle for 9 a year, Albert for 8.5, and Collins for around 7 if some desperate team grossly overpays for a backup. Luckily Ireland is gone, so we will go after Monroe or Albert. IMO the only options for us. Maybe someone will be cut like Donald Penn but I'm not a fan. We have to get an LT before the Draft or we're doomed!!!

Thanks for the update. I would think that Monroe would get more guaranteed, not sure on Albert.

IMO, there are trade offs on age, injury, and other teams with money and deed bidding the price up. I think Long and a couple of others got in the $9M range last year.

Good observation Southbeach2. IMHO we should have always realized the value of a solid LT. I screamed about it all last season and it proved correct. Bad LT = huge liability for a young QB.

No run lane holes is the only thing even close ... oh yeah we had that problem too because Long was our best pass protector always on an island on the blind side and also he was our best run blocker consistently opening running lanes. We lost him and the line imploded.

If we had Jake Long last season we would have made the playoffs IMHO. Let's get a solution to our line woes this year.

hm Imo Peters is a big step up from the likes of Albert I wouldnt pay the two the same amount

What interests me most this is that they really did draft Lane Johnson at 4 to be a RT

Good point on Long's run blocking, which was often overlooked but, not by Bush last year. Monroe looks to be the only one who can give us both run and pass blocking.

I go back and forth on paying a LT a Big deal. In today's NFL, teams are moving their best pass rushers to the other side to take advantage of match ups as opposed to year's past. The RT has increased in importance with that, and roll outs, moving pockets, etc. You now need both sides covered more than before.

Johnson did not play well at all last year. The deal makes me think that he is not as good as MANY thought he would be but, it is early.

He was always a raw prospect, thought he improved as the season went on. Rookies struggle, its not just a Dolphins thing. Long term Lane Johnson will be a stud. Still dont get why Fisher went #1 though

That contract number of $51 million is very misleading. Only $19.5 of that is guaranteed, which is basically a 2 year extension of his already existing contract.

My problem was not paying a LT big money, it was paying a guy whose body seemed to breaking down and seemed injury prone big money. Jake got hurt again last year didn't he?
