I really do not see any other defensive players who really stand out.
Top DPTY candidates

Linebackers
Mike Peterson 131 tackles 6 sacks 0 safetys 0 TDs 7 Pass defensed 2 forced fumbles 3 Ints
Brian Urlacher 121 tackles 6 sacks 0 safetys 0 Tds 5 Pass defensed 1 forced fumbles

Defensive Lineman
Dwight Freeney 34 tackles 11 sacks 0 safetys 0 Tds 3 Pass defensed 6 forced fumbles
Osi Umenyiora 70 tackles 14.5 sacks 0 safetys 0 TDs 7 Pass defensed 4 forced fumbles
Jason Taylor 74 tackles 12 sacks 1 safetys 1 TDs 9 Pass defensed 4 forced fumbles

Defensive Backs
Champ Bailey 8 Ints 2 TDs 1 Forced Fumbles 64 Tackles
Darren Sharper 9 Ints 2 TDs 1 Forced Fumbles 51 Tackles
Deltha O'Neal 10 Ints 0 TDs 0 Forced Fumbles 65 Tackles
Ty Law 10 Ints 1 TDs 0 Forced Fumbles 62 Tackles

None of these players really stick out to me except JT who has a safety, double digit sacks, and a touchdown.

You guys think he has a shot?

urlacher will get it even though he doesnt deserve it

Zach could have got it if he played all 16. He could have had 180 tackles 3ish sacks and 1 maybe 2 picks.

But he didn't so I say it is between JT, Peterson and Urlacher.

welcome to homerville

JT had a good year....BUT

Derrick Burgess
Shawn Merriman
Nathan Vasher
Detha Oneal

this wasn't even JTs best season, that was in 2002 when he had 18 1/2 sacks to lead the NFL and he didnt win it then...

my guess for DPY is Nathan Vasher.

WHAT?!?

He's the best player on the best defense in football. How can you not give it to him?!?

I think Champ Bailey has a good shot at it because he had a lot of big plays on national television and everyone just seems to know and like him. It never occurred to me that JT would even be considered.

I agree with you. Urlacher gets it and deserves it. Not to take away from what JT did this year though. He'sstill awesome! Maybe even better next year on 2 good feet and comfortable with the new schemes. Just imagine!

I think Deltha O'neal warrants strong consideration. 10 picks is quite good. Actually all of those DB's listed had stallar years based on the stats. I really didn't consider JT for the award. As others said, he isn't leading the league in anything really and this wasn't even an outstanding season for JT by his own standards.

If you factor in the torn foot problem though, you probably have a different outlook, but that doesn't take away from what othersdid this past season.

Deltha O'Neal is so overrated. If any corners have to take it, I'd say Champ Bailey or Ty Law.

The national media has been all over Urlacher's jock since he came into the
NFL. He'll get it.

He's palyed well, adn, certainly deserves merit, but, I'd like it if he wasn't refered to as the next Butkus in every breath.
