According to this article he is planning a comeback and has looked good in workouts, it says the leaders for his services are Miami & NJ. If Miami signed him and he got healthy to go w/ Wade in the backcourt I'd pencil you guys in as my '06 favorite. As much as I hate duke Williams has a ton of ability and even though he's a more natural 2 he can handle the ball and would be an upgrade over Damon Jones even not at 100%.

Here is the quote:

When I first arrived in Chicago, the buzz surrounded two workouts by Jay Williams as he recovers from his near career (and life) ending motorcycle accident.

What has the NBA’s attention was the second workout and the success he had against the lottery candidate Raymond Felton. Williams was described as being at 75 percent, yet his perimeter shooting has improved both in distance and accuracy. Williams reportedly has been told by Chicago that they do not have a spot for him when he’s ready to return, and word has it that Miami and New Jersey could be in the lead for his services. He has stated that he wants to play for a winner and both cities would easily accommodate that request.

I always thought he was overrated, but it was sad he got that injury. Not sure if Id take him, thats a big risk there.

He's a major talent, sure he has the duke curse lingering over his head but I think he's good enough to break through(plus he wanted to be a Tar Heel so that has to count for something, right? :D ). If healthy he is immensely more talented than Damon Jones and could be the final piece to a Championship puzzle for the Heat.

I actually like Jay Williams and I was sad when he got hurt. I just hope that he doesn't sign with the Heat when he makes his comeback but I do wish him the best in his career.

Just curious, why do you think he is overrated... and why would it be a big risk to sign him for a small contract? (The contract would have to be small because he has to prove himself to the league that he can still play)

His passing was ok, his jumpshot wasnt too impressive, and he didnt drive to the basket well. Maybe an average PG, Im sorry, I just didnt see the hype with J-Will then, and I dont now, especially with the injury. Its a big risk if were depending on him to be a backup to DJ/Whoever is the starting PG at the time. I would hope there would be insurance for him. What did he do prior to his injury in Chicago? BTW, I hope he proves me wrong. He did have a mean 3-point shot to his credit.

Jay Williams DOMINATED at the highest level of College b-ball. If he's healthy again he's a steal for any team but his health is a major question!

Health risk but hes worth taking the chance and it would be great for Miami to get more depth on the team.

The article doesn't say whether Williams is a free agent; is he, or would we have compensate Chicago?

I agree with depth wise and a low risk contract, but I wouldnt put too many eggs in this basket. If we works out and does well, then great. If not, there should be better serviceable backups.

Miami tried to bring Jay back last year. I'd love to have him, and if he's healthy...a backcourt of Williams & Wade would be truly amazing. That's a big if, but he's definitely worth a shot. At worst, he'll probably just be an alright player and a decent backup for Damon Jones or whoever is at the point. Keyon Dooling is likely not coming back.

He's better than average. This is coming from another Heels fan who hates Duke. He would be a much needed upgrade for the Heat if he recovered and stayed healthy.

I thought this guy played like crap for Chicago? And hes going to be great after he almost died in a motorcycle accident and hasnt played in a century? Career numbers: 9.5pts on 39% shooting, 32% three pt, 64% ft (I believe he was a choker in that department in college too), 4.7 assists. And hes going to be a great pickup..I think a solid veteren without the question marks would be a much better pickup for Miami. They arent developing young guys, Shaq only has a good couple of years left. Just because someone is a "name" guy doesnt mean hes a good player.

I pass.....Dooling is going to opt out...so I say keep Damon Jones and sign Antonio Daniels...that would give us two PG's with good assist to turnover ratios.....Damon would give us three point shooting...while Daniels gives us defense and size with a scorers mentality. That would be a perfect fit.

Williams would be an excellent pickup for any team that wanted to spend the minimum, but I can't imagine why one would go over that. His health is obviously a big concern, as is rust. You've got to figure that he won't be of much use for at least the first half of the season and probably longer, as he gets back into rythym.

If it comes down to a signing of Williams or a signing of Antonio Daniels, y'all would be crazy not to go for Daniels.
