Why not? He caught 50 passes and scored 32 tds in 2014.

And Ryan tannehill was a serviceable WR in college.

NFL is a different world, Ajayi is far from a polished receiver.

This is one of my biggest beef with Gase. I don't think he is optimizing the full potential of his players. One play all season he puts Grant on the field the entire Bills defense paid attention.

Grant is coming slowly but surely. Who is going to get benched for Grant? Landry? Stills? Parker? Some of you fans need to let this process play out and show a little patience.

Ajayi should be a receiving threat based on what he did in college but he struggled catching the ball during OTAs and in the preseason.
Jay Ajayi has dropped a few out of the backfield, despite his success doing that at Boise State. He said that route running and working on his receiving skills will be a priority for him during the next month. I'm not overly concerned because he was a good receiver out of the backfield at Boise.

Have you guys watched the games? He has certainly struggled in that aspect. College production != pro production

Struggled how? He hasn't dropped many passes and really not enough targets to say he is currently struggling.

When Grant and Drake break out, we are all going to be very happy Gase eased them in.

And Ajayi caught ton of balls in college but have you seen him try to catch a pass in Miami? Stonehands. Bats the ball up in the air for an INT, drops an easy pass... He just isn't catching well. I am sure he'll still get passes but I wouldn't rely feel great relying on his hands on 3rd and manageable.

In the opportunities he has had in the passing game (preseason and regular season), so far Ajayi has been very poor catching the ball out of the backfield with a number of bad drops. But that doesn't mean he can't improve, and he has had a couple of difficult catches as well. IMHO he looks like he is still adjusting to this aspect of the game in the pros.

I haven't seen many passes that hit him in stride.
They key is to find him open while running and pass the ball without him having to stop and catch, or contort his body which pretty much every pass play he's had to do.

He will get more comfortable with more snaps and get better. He has not been good and that surprised me based on his college numbers. Lamar Miller was not comfortable catching the ball for a few years but he got MUCH better at the end of 2014 and into 2015. RB routes are different in the NFL than most all colleges. He just needs to get more comfortable with those routes and develop some muscle memory.

He hasn't exactly shown natural hands out there. A lot of inconsistency there. I'm a big Ajayi fan, but Drake and Williams are better options in that aspect. I'd give Ajayi some more looks, but it's not as simple as projecting college stats.
