DAVIE — Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi may not have an endorsement deal in his native England yet, but his popularity among fans who use Twitter has skyrocketed in the past two weeks.
According to an unscientific poll conducted by The Daily Dolphin this week, Ajayi is currently the second-most popular Dolphins, surging ahead of Cameron Wake, a Dolphins icon.
Wide receiver Jarvis Landry is still the most popular Dolphin, garnering 45 percent of the vote.
Ajayi earned 24 percent of the 1,507 votes. Wake earned 21 percent. And quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who Dolphins fans still don’t seem sold on as a franchise quarterback, earned 10 percent.

Ajayi has been named AFC offensive player of the week in each of the past two weeks. Ajayi has rushed for 418 yards in Miami’s last two games and is on pace for 1,336 yards, which would be the third-greatest rushing season in the history of the Dolphins, behind Ricky Williams in 2002 and 2003.
Only 27 players in the history of the NFL have ever rushed for 200 yards twice in a career. And Ajayi did in in consecutive games.
Ajayi is the only player since at least 1970 to rush for 200 yards in two of his first three career starts. Hence, the sudden surge in popularity.

I like Ajayi but Wake has been making plays for Miami for years and has been a devoted Miami dolphin and leader. Ajayi has a couple good games and now he's more popular. lol oh well as long as we are winning! I'm happy.

We do love us some Landry...

It's just twitter.....I wouldn't say it's a true sample. Cam is king!

It's a "what have you done for me lately" business. Ajayi is hot right now. To the average fan they hear Ajayi's name being thrown around a lot more than they hear Wake's name. Wake can get two or three sacks in the next game and he won't get as much air time as Ajayi is getting for back-to-back 200+ yard games. And it is a rare occurrence to Ajayi's credit.

As for me I'll take Wake over Ajayi.

Is Jay for real? I certainly want to believe , but after all these years of crushed hopes it's hard to buy in. I'm curious, do the rest of you think he can turn into a star player for the next few years, or do you think he is just a flash in the pan?

No love for John Denney?!?

What is this world coming to?

When you have been starved for something exciting on offense, you will gravitate to the one thing that provides that. I think Ajayi's running style and the fact that, like many have mentioned, he is the talk of the NFL right now lends itself to his popularity.

Last yes this time most fans couldn't even pronounce his name!

Meh the lastest thing! That's how people and popularity works.

Landry and Wake are my favorites. Ajayi has to put in a good season first

Ajayi is good but no way he's above Wake. Too many people get caught up in RIGHT NOW. Put that poll up after Ajayi has a lackluster game and see if it's the same.
