jeff ireland: ryan tannehills expectations tempered...

Honestly I really feel that letting a guy get a year under his belt is the best way to grow a QB. There are a lot more bad things that can happen if they play from the get go than good. RT is also not the best candidate for the throw them to the fire approach.

IDK this doesn't seem to suggest anything that hasn't come from the staff all along. I think the kids grows behind one or even both veterans for a year. Wouldn't surprise me if the loser of the starting QB race is still traded if the the right team needs a QB via injury hence at some point bumping Tannehill up the chart to number 2.

Let him learn and let him take his lumps until the time is right and then let the try by fire begin.

there's plenty of examples recently of guys playing from the get go and fairing very well...that said i'm not even asking for him to be the annointed starter...just let the kid compete for the job for gods sakes...i mean its david garrard and matt moore...

just my opinion and maybe there will be a fair comp in camp and this is all just talk right now but this reeks to me of ireland looking to keep his job for as long as he can by making the kid wait...again though if the kid gets a fair look in camp that's all i ask for...if not my take is irelands looking to delay being judged for this pick as long as he can...saving hide...call me a hater call me whatever you want but that's my read...there's nothing in this building at the position that is so good that a top 10 pick qb should not be at least getting a look

jeff brings them in, its up to the coaches to utilize them right?

i'm sure jeff has some say over what goes on and who gets reps etc on that field...no doubt in my mind about that...i hope hard knocks gives us a real glimpse of how tanny is viewed and how much of a look he gets...if he's from the jump at camp the #3 qb i think that's rediculous...make him earn the #3 job if thats the way its gonna go down...only way to earn it is come up goose eggs when you get your chance...

well in this case you'd like to assume jeff can dictate reps etc, wereas I'd like to think he stays out of the coaches business.

So Ireland says Tannehill will have to beat out Garrard and Moore in camp and won't just be handed the job. Not sure I see the issue.

i don't think philbin is on the same ground as jeff ireland given the offseason coaching search and eventual decision...i seriously doubt ireland truly stays in the shadows when it comes to personnel utilization...especially a qb...but i guess thats one way of looking at it if you disagree with me...

If Tannehill can not beat out the other two do you really want him to start ? I don't.
If he is CLEARLY the best QB in camp and the preseason the job will be his. Simple as that.
If it's close they will probably sit him till he's ready.

you can't beat anyone out if you never get the opportunity...i just hope he gets an opportunity...and i get the feeling he's not...just my gut

That would be amazingly short sighted. I'm not sure how smart it is to turn a semi strength into a weakness. Plus it is not like we have any of the two veterans signed to a long term contract. I'd rather have a decent back up QB who has BEEN HERE THE ENTIRE SEASON over a 5th-6th round pick someone might gives us.

nowhere did i say just give him the damn job so get it right at least...
You did say it doesn't sound like he is getting a fair shot based on Ireland's comments about him not being handed the job and having to compete with Moore and Garrard. Not really sure how you came to that conclusion based on those comments.
