Pro Football Weekly: Jeff how do these hires help the Dolphins?

Jeff Reynolds: Mularkey has more talent in Miami today than he did in two seasons with Buffalo. The personnel is more versatile than what Mularkey was working with in Pittsburgh. Head coach Nick Saban is all about leadership. Some might view hiring two recently fired head coaches as standing too close to the flame, but Mularkey and Capers are disciplined football lifers who aren’t in Miami to rock the boat. Mularkey is a Floridian who wasn’t pleased with the direction Buffalo had taken in the offseason and might be more comfortable operating behind the curtain, leaving Saban to take the microphone each day. Capers’ potential hiring can’t be overstated. He’s a 3-4 whiz, architect of the Steelers’ defense from 1992 to ’94 and a strong motivator. Richard Smith and Will Muschamp were co-coordinators in 2005, but Saban ultimately handled the defense. With Capers, an NFL coach since 1984, in the fold, Saban could delegate authority as he did with the offense (Linehan) last season

Awesome. Think back to Greg Lloyd and Kevin Greene blowing QBs away in those Pittsburgh zone blitzes.

Exactly, and was the main reason that Greene followed him to Carolina when he took the job there. This should be fun. If you check out Greg Cote's blog on the Herald page, he also says the following..

It's official. Capers is in. Title will be along the lines of "special assistant to the head coach," but all know he'll steer and shape the defense even without a coordinator's title] Greg Cote.

:) :dolphins:

Wow this sounds awesome! I am salivating at the possibilities..

I am confident that the Miami Dolphins will dominate the NFL for years to come.

Something VERY VERY interesting that slid under the radar in that article:

Replacing LCB Nate Clements should be a priority. Buffalo doesn’t consider him a top-flight cornerback and plans to let Clements test the open market.

I wonder what kind of relationship he and Mularkey had at Buffalo. I know Saban wouldn't allow anything to fester here, but would it determine whether Nate signs here or not?
