I am predicting that Jenkins will have his best year as a pro in 2016.

I believe this is the year where Jelani stays healthy all year and everything comes together for him in the new 4-3 under.

Last year was another injury plagued season that was very frustrating. http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/miami-dolphins-jelani-jenkins-injuries-2015-season-011416

Untapped potential: Jelani is a former 5 star recruit and was the #1 LB recruit in the nation in 2011. A former standout HS sprinter who ran consistently in the low 11's in the 100 meter. Posting a best of 11.14 and also running a 4.4 forty in HS.

Yes, he is only 6.04 feet tall, but he does have 32.25 inch arms that help his length. People have been calling Xavien Howard long with his 31 arms.

AS usual Jelani was injured during the combine and couldn't work out. He worked a couple weeks later at his pro day where it is pretty obvious to me that the foot injury had not yet healed.

Jelani was a national scholar athlete and was one of five finalists for the Watkins Award. As far as book smarts go, probably one of the smartest guys on the team.

Durability is a huge issue with Jelani, nevertheless, if I were the FO, I would sign him to an extension now if possible. His cap number may triple or more after this season.

Durability is an extreme negative, but IQ,character, and athleticism are big pluses.

And this is also a huge issue.....Jelani just turned 24 in March. He will become a 24 year old experienced NFL veteran UFA next offseaon.

Would you extend Jelani before this season?

I would offer him a below value contract given his season last year bc you could structure a contract with less money guaranteed considering we don't know which player (2015 vs 2014) he truly is. Having said that, our front office has shown they don't really plan ahead like that (give we lost Miller, Vernon, Shelby)

I'm usually an optimist, but Jelani Jenkins is pretty average. Solid tackler, but doesn't really wow me

Jenkins is a good kid and solid citizen. I like the guy. But he has always been rated because of his speed.

The thing with him is the athlete is far better than the player. He doesn't stack and shed well. He has the speed to rush the passer but doesn't get many pressures. He has the speed to cover but really excellent there either.

He is a good run and chase LB, and decent tackler too. But he is not a good run defender and doesn't stand out enough in the passing game. Thus, IMHO, he is OK for now, but we will likely look to upgrade him next year.

I'm rooting for the guy to make a big improvement and grab the spot. But for that to happen, he needs to produce pressure on the passer and become a very good coverage LB. That plays to his athletic strengths.

If someone thinks he's worth triple, let them have him.

I think he is nothing more than average and is overrated by most Dolphin fans.
I disagree. I think Jelani can be decent in the Will LB role. The key to improvement in the Linebackers as a group is the performance of Kiko Alonso in the Mike. Kiko has better instincts than any Mike that we've had since Zach Thomas. Kiko needs to be fully healthy and it sounds like he is. Jelani and Koa can be good contributors with a strong mike in the middle.
The other positive with Jelani is that he is apparently one of the highest character and most popular guys on the team. Like Mike Thomas, I have never heard a negative word about Jelani. He had some bad luck with injuries last year and should contribute a lot more this year. He's a keeper.

I don't know, he has never impressed me and he is an old regime guy. This could be his last season as a Dolphin.

Ya get rid of him and then we will hear the complaints that we get rid of our young talent! Can't have a star at every position. He's solid. SMH

Ahhh...How soon they forget....

2014: 110 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles in 14 starts....as a weak side LB.

Jenkins started 14 games as a second-year pro in 2014 and graded out as a top-seven cover linebacker at Pro Football Focus
.

He fought through injuries the second half of the season...foot, ankle. Given the DT play last year, I'm not surprised all the LB's struggled.

He gets cred because of UF. Ill wait and see

Not asking for a star, just someone abit more consistent. But I would have no problem letting him walk.

I'm seeing the same reasons for Jenkins, that were used for Chowder.

Pretty spot on really. I think he has good skills in space and a good athleticism. If he only has to do the job of Will he can be an above average/top third Will. Good lb to have on nickel package sets and still very young. I hope he takes a big step this year.
